Anil_CherianMumbai, Sep 11: A Bollywood costume designer was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a well at a resort near Mumbai where he was partying.

Anil Cherian (43) was working on a film called 'Bold Bollywood' which is inspired by the life of actor Jiah Khan who committed suicide earlier this year. He was found dead on Monday.

One of his employees, Minal Gupta, went to a resort in Gorai village on Saturday to attend her cousin's birthday party. Gupta had joined Anil's office three months ago. "Minal, her cousin Aishwarya and eight male friends were at the party. While it was on, Anil called up Gupta. She told him she was at the bash and Anil asked if he could join them. After enquiring with her cousin, Gupta said he could," said senior inspector Deepak Bagwe of Gorai police.

Anil took a train to Mira Road and sent a text to his wife about his plans. A youth attending the party picked him up on a two-wheeler from the station.

"The group had procured alcohol and Anil had four to five pegs. At 3.30am, he took his cellphone and walked out of the room probably to go to the washroom. When he did not return, the others assumed he had left for home," Bagwe said.

On Sunday around 11am, Gupta and the others checked out of the resort. Around 4pm, Anil's wife Shivani rang up Gupta to enquire about her husband's whereabouts. When Gupta replied she was not aware, Shivani rushed to Gorai and filed a missing complaint.

The resort's staff was drawing water from a well on Monday when they found Anil's body in it. The police were called and the body fished out. His cellphone was also found in the well. "The well is 100-150ft from the room where the party was held. The resort exit was not brightly lit, so it is possible Anil veered towards the well. We are probing whether it was an accident or if there was any foul play," Bagwe said.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday after Anil's family arrived from Bangalore. The cause of death is not known yet. The police have registered a case of accidental death. The resort's staff refused to comment.

Actor Shekhar Suman said he was numbed by the news of Anil's death. "He was not only my stylist, but also a dear friend. He was full of life. But, for the last six months, he was disturbed and had cut all contact. I called him recently to invite him for an event and he said he would be there. I suspect foul play in his death. He could never have slipped into a well or ended his life. This is unbelievable," he said.

New Delhi, Apr 23: As the holy month of Ramzan is about to begin, several Muslim public figures on Thursday appealed to the community to offer tarawih and hold iftar inside their homes and follow the lockdown regulations imposed to tackle the coronavirus threat.

Television actor Iqbal Khan in a video message appealed to the people to not step out of their houses during Ramzan.

"This time around, whatever you do during Ramzan, you have to do it inside your houses. Do not visit mosques; offer tarawih (late evening prayers offered during Ramzan) at your homes. Your stepping outside will not only put you in a problem but may put your family members in trouble also," said Khan.

"And that will be wrong, do not go outside. If anyone says you have to go outside then they are wrong. Stay home and stay safe and help others stay safe too," he added.

Another TV actor and Tik Tok star Jannat Zubair asked people to avoid any kind of social gatherings so as to ensure the safety of everyone.

"I know we are in a difficult situation but there is no need to panic. We will overcome this and things will be fine. The holy month of Ramzan is going to start, please stay home, offer prayers at your homes and avoid family/friends gatherings for now. It is just a matter of time, things will be fine soon. Stay home and stay safe," she said.
Ramzan is likely to begin from April 24.

Washington, May 26: Making a slight change to the name of their newborn, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his singer girlfriend Grimes have now named their first child X AE A-Xii.

The difference is only in the numeral part of the name which is now written in the Roman format.

Earlier this month, the celebrity couple hogged headlines for naming their son X AE A-12.

The change in the name came when an Instagram follower of the Canadian singer asked if she had considered changing the name of the child and she replied with, "X AE A-Xii."

However, the performer didn't provide further insight concerning the reason behind the change.

Canadian singer Grimes gave birth to her first child on May 4.

The 32-year-old had earlier taken to Twitter and explained the meaning of the baby's name.

Mumbai, Aug 2: Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron has come aboard as an executive producer on filmmaker Chaitanya Tamhane's movie The Disciple. The Marathi feature is set to represent India at the 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival. It will be screened in the Competition section of the prestigious film gala.

The movie, which is Tamhane's follow-up to his National Award-winning feature Court, has also been selected for 2020 Toronto International Film Festival's official line-up.

"I met Chaitanya through a mentorship program where I had the opportunity to watch his very superb debut film, Court  I was immediately impressed by his sense of cinema and fearless confidence to tell stories.

"He was part of most of Roma's process and I jumped to the opportunity to be part of the process of his second film The Disciple. I believe Chaitanya is one of the most important new voices of contemporary cinema," Cuaron said in a statement.

Tamhane said he is honoured to have Cuaron aboard the film.

"It’s a bit surreal and an incredible honour for me to have one of the most recognised and acclaimed filmmakers in the world be part of 'The Disciple'. In some ways, this validation from Alfonso Cuaron is even more," he added.

The Disciple, a 127-minute long feature, stars Aditya Modak, Arun Dravid, Sumitra Bhave, and Kiran Yadnyopavit. It has been produced by “Sir” actor Vivek Gomber through his Zoo Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.

The Disciple marks Tamhane’s return to Venice after he won the Best Film - Orizzonti and Lion of the Future award for Court in 2014.

Court, a poignant commentary on India's judicial system, also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2015 and was India's official entry for the Best Foreign Film at the 2016 Oscars.

Endeavor Content will sell North American rights and New Europe Film Sales boards the film as an international sales agent.
