Eshwarappa not invited to BJP's OBC event

Bengaluru, Nov 14: The state BJP leadership has not invited its senior leader K?S?Eshwarappa to Monday's ground-breaking ceremony to its mega convention of Other Backward Classes, scheduled to be held at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru on November 27.

eshwarappaNames of many BJP?leaders, including Union ministers Ananth Kumar and D?V?Sadananda Gowda and party MLC?B?J?Puttaswamy, have been mentioned in the invitation that was given to the media here on Sunday.

However, Eshwarappa, who considers himself as the voice of OBCs in the BJP, has not been invited for the Monday's event. When contacted, he said, “I am unaware of the programme. I have no invitation.”

Eshwarappa, who is leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, and state BJP?president B?S Yeddyurappa are at loggerheads ever since the former questioned certain appointments made to various wings of the state unit of the party.

Mahila Morcha chief

Yeddyurappa on Sunday appointed former MLC?Bharati Shetty as the party's state Mahila Morcha president. According to an announcement made by the BJP on Sunday, she will replace the incumbent Bharati Mugdum.

Mangaluru, June 16: A youth has been arrested by the sleuths of Ullal police station on charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl and impregnating her on the outskirts of the city. 

The arrested has been identified as Lavakumar alias Shravan, a resident of Valacchil, who was working in a fast-food outlet at Thokkottu. 

According to the police, the accused had sexually assaulted his owner’s minor daughter. The incident came to light when the girl’s mother came to know that former was pregnant.

It is said that the girl’s mother, who had employed the accused, allowed him to stay in their house. The accused befriended the minor girl and sexually used her.

Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, a case was registered at Ullal police station under Pocso Act. The police arrested him yesterday and produced him before a local court.

Mangaluru, April 3: A police officer in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district got injured on Friday after unidentified youth pelted stones at him.

The incident took place when the cop stopped them from entering into the state from Kerala in the view of nationwide lockdown. He was later administered medical aid.

New Delhi, Mar 7: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the bail granted by Karnataka High Court to 21 Popular Front of India (PFI) members accused in connection with violence that erupted during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Karnataka's Mangaluru in December 2019.

On February 17, the High Court had granted bail to the accused on the bail petition filed by Mohammed Ashik.

A bench consisting Chief Justice S A Bobde issued notice to the accused on Friday after taking cognisance of the plea filed by Karnataka government against the bail granted by the High Court.

Appearing for the state government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta criticised the High Court's order stating that at least 56 policemen sustained injuries during the violent protests.

Two persons identified as Jaleel (43) of Kudroli and Nousheen (49) of Bengre had died at a private hospital following the bullet injuries they sustained in an alleged police firing during a protest against CAA 2019.
