Evasion of tax: HC dismisses petitions filed by D K Shivakumar, two others

Bengaluru, Nov 13: In a setback to Congress leader D K Shivakumar, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed the criminal review petition filed him against the order of the trial court which had rejected his plea seeking him to discharge from the case registered by the Income Tax Department for allegedly evading tax.

This apart, the High Court has also dismissed the criminal review petitions of two other accused in the same case. The two other accused are N Rajendra and Anjaneya Hanumanthaiah.

Justice B A Patil observed that prima facie petitioners - accused have not made out any grounds so as to interfere with the order of the trial court. The petitions are devoid of merits and the same are liable to be dismissed. Accordingly, the petitions are dismissed, the judge said.

All the three accused approached the high court against the trial court order dated June 25, 2019.

The I-T Department had filed a complaint against DK Shivakumar and others after it conducted a search in August 2017 under the provisions of Income Tax Act as well as IPC.

Belagavi, Jun 6: Suspecting that cow meat was being transported to Goa, unidentified persons set goods vehicle on fire near Karle village in Belagavi taluk last night.

The Incident came to the fore on Saturday morning.

Usually, vehicles carrying vegetables, milk and other essentials being transported to Goa and other towns plying via Karle village near Belagavi.

Sources said that for the past few days vehicles carrying meat were stopped and were handed over to police by section of activists suspecting it to be cow meat.

Persons who set the vehicle on fire were yet to be identified. Jurisdictional Belagavi Rural police have rushed to the spot. More details were awaited.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday arrived at the Yelahanka air base by a special plane on a two-day visit to Karnataka to attend events in Tumakuru and Bengaluru.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda and Pralhad Joshi and state Revenue Minister R Ashoka were present to welcome Modi.

Yediyurappa greeted the Prime Minister by garlanding him and offering a shawl and adorned him with a Mysuru Peta (turban).

Later, Modi flew to Tumakuru to attend events at the Siddaganga Math apart from addressing a gathering and to present the Krishi Karman Award.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will visit the DRDO facility to dedicate five DRDO Young Scientists Laboratories to the nation.

He will stay at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

On Friday, Modi will inaugurate the 107th Indian Science Congress at the University of Agriculture Science in Bengaluru.

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A veteran politician and former union minister has repeatedly tested positive for COVID-19 in the Dakshina Kannada.

The former minister, who resides in Bantwal taluk, is said to be asymptomatic.

His wife and children have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, one of the kin of the former minister said that he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru. "He is asymptomatic and doing well," he said.
