Bantwal, Jul 17: Sri Rajashekharananda Swami, the chief pontiff of Vajradehi Mutt seer, who claimed that he has an 'explosive' information about the murder of RSS worker Sharath, failed to appear before the Bantwal town police on Monday.

The seer, however, sent his lawyer Mahesh Kaje to the Bantwal Town Police Station on his behalf. The lawyer handed over a written statement of the seer to Bantwal circle inspector Prakash.

Mahesh told media that the seer could not come personally as he was engaged in rituals pertaining to Chaturmasa and Ashada Masa. "However, we have submitted a written statement of the seer to the investigating officer,' he added.

Regarding the 'explosive information, which the seer claimed to be having, Kaje said what common people fear to say, the seer had the guts to say it openly. The seer's statement had given rise to a lot of questions and what the investigating officer needed has been submitted to him. These matters will come out at an appropriate time, he added.

The Dakshina Kannada police had served a notice to Rajashekharananda Swami after he claimed that he possessed 'explosive information' about Sharath's assailants. The seer had also claimed that he had some strong evidence to prove why and how Sharath Madivala was murdered.

The notice was served under CrPc 160 and police had asked the seer to appear before the investigating officer to share any crucial details about the murder.

Sharath, 31, who ran a laundry shop on BC Road, was brutally hacked by a group of men on the night of July 4 as he left his shop. He was declared dead on July 7 and tensions ran high in Bantwal when several people were injured and a few vehicles were damaged in stone throwing incidents during the funeral procession of Sharath on July 8.

Mangaluru, May 13: Union Minister and former Karnataka chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda today assured that he will exert pressure on the authorities concerned to operate more repatriate flights to bring back Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka.

Speaking in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com with Kannadiga delegates in Saudi Arabia, Mr Gowda said: “Today itself I will contact the external affairs ministry and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to convince them the need to add operate flights to bring back stranded Kannaidgas from the Kingdom.

After paying heed to the advices, requests and concerns of Kannadiga delegates that participated in the video conference, Mr Gowda said: “Two things need to be done. First thing is number of flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka should be increased. Second thing is to ensure that most of these flights land in the Mangaluru Airport as most of the Kannadiga expats in Saudi Arabia are from the coastal region.

“There should be at least two to three flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka (Bengaluru Airport or Mangaluru Airport) every week. That is my intention,” he added.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Middle East based prestigious LuLu Group has come forward to invest $300 million in Karnataka in the retail, logistics and hospitality sectors.

As part of this, the first LuLu mall will commence operations in Bengaluru’s Rajajinagar area by August.

LuLu’s first mall in India, in Cochin, is seen as a huge success. It’s not clear how that mall is doing financially, but it became so popular that it had an adverse effect on almost every other mall in the city.

Lulu’s investment plan for Karnataka was communicated during a discussion between chief minister BS Yediyurappa and Yusuff Ali MA, chairman and managing director of Lulu Group, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The company will also set up two five-star hotels in Bengaluru through Twenty14 Holdings, its hospitality arm, and a modern logistics centre in the Uttara Kannada region.

Lulu Group’s retail initiative Tablez brought Toys `R’ Us, one of the world’s largest toy store chains, to Bengaluru in 2017. Started in the Phoenix Mall in Whitefield, it competes with Reliance-owned Hamleys.

Tablez has also brought in other international brands such as American ice cream parlour chain Cold Stone Creamery, South Africa based flame-grilled chicken concept Galito’s, and Tablez’ own brand Bloomsbury’s, a boutique cafe and bakery. It has also launched Spanish fashion brands Springfield and Women ’secret.
