Facebook friend-turned-fiancé held for ‘raping’, cheating techie

Bengaluru, Jun 1: A software engineer has been detained after a woman techie lodged complained against him for abandoning her after sexually exploiting her on marriage promise.

25-year-old Shobha (name changed), has claimed that during the courtship period, the accused took her to various places like Goa, Hyderabad and Madikeri and forced her to have physical relations with him. He later refused to marry her and dumped her.

Shobha, who works at a private firm and had met Shashi (27) on Facebook in 2015. Shashi, a resident of Roopena Agrahara and a techie too, claimed he was in love with Shobha and promised to marry her. They went on several trips and together and developed intimacy. Shobha also introduced Shashi to her family. In October 2018, Shashi and Shobha got engaged.

A few months after the engagement, Shashi started avoiding Shobha. He stopped taking her calls and ghosted her for a while. Later, he confessed he was not interested in her and refused to marry her. Shobha’s complaint states that not only did he trick her into having a physical relationship with him, he also borrowed Rs 3.5 lakh from her which he never returned. “He took me to Golden Heritage apartment and forced himself upon me. During our trips to Kerala, Hyderabad and Madikeri, he molested me at the resort we were staying at,” she stated in the complaint.

The accused has been taken into custody and an FIR has been registered at the Bommanahalli police station.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Karnataka government today decided to go for complete lockdown. This includes the closure of all non essential government offices, suspension of all public transport services and banning of mass prayers in places of worships across the state.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had expressed the need for a complete lockdown like the Janta Curfew on Sunday. Going by this, there will be no government transport services at least till March 31 and as many as 19,000 government buses will be off the road.

The government also decided to cancel the famous Karaga festival. The CM said that all celebrations and functions will be called off along with mass prayers in mosques and churches.

The CM said that they have decided to procure 1,000 ventilators and 10 lakh face masks in addition to other health equipments.

Private hospitals have come forward to spare their doctors and nursing staff to attend to Covid-19 patients in government hospitals, the CM said.

Yediyurappa also said that he has directed the health department to paste notification on the houses of residents who are infected with coronavirus. This is being done after people with indelible seals and home quarantined are reported to be roaming freely. The notifications will help neighbours to keep an eye on them.

The CM said the government-run Indira Canteen will serve free food to the poor until the lockdown continues. He also said that action will be initiated against non essential shops that are open despite a directive to shut down.

Mangaluru, July 31: Extending Eid al-Adha greetings to the people, S M Rashid Haji, president of the Bearys chamber of commerce & industry has termed the festival as a symbol of sacrifice and patience. 

“Eid al-Adha commemorates the Prophet Ibraheem’s (a) test of faith and sacrifices. It symbolizes sacrifice and endurance,” he said.

“Every human being during his lifetime faces one or the other test from the Almighty… Now we are collectively facing the hardship... May this festival bring goodness and peace, and herald the end of pandemic,” he said.

Mangaluru, Jun 29: An elderly woman who was tested positive for coronavirus, breathed her last at the designated covid hospital in the city today.

The deceased was a 60-year-old resident of Ullal.

According to sources, the woman, was getting treated for ailments related to liver and heart.
