Farmer burnt to death along with cattle in vehicle while heading to fair

Tumakuru, Feb 5: A farmer who was travelling to a cattle fair in Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru district on Sunday was charred to death after his four-wheeler caught fire.

Eleven head of cattle that were trapped inside the canter also died.

The police have identified the farmer as Gangaraju, 38, from Thigalarapalya in Koratagere taluk of Tumakuru district. The cattle was being transported in the canter that had also been loaded with hay.

According to the police, the haystack came in contact with live electric wire and caught fire. Passers-by saw the fire alerted the driver.

But by the time Gangaraju stopped the vehicle, it had caught fire. He opened the back door of the canter and entered the vehicle to rescue the cattle. As the fire engulfed the vehicle, he could not come out.

A case has been registered in Kyatsandra police station and investigations are on.

Firstly a  precious life has been lost, it is a matter of great grief and sorrow that a human life and animals have died. May the Almiighty give strength to the deceased family in this unrepairable loss.

Mysuru, Feb 14: Two weeks after her engagement with another boy, a 20-year-old girl who was in love with a boy, committed suicide at her residence in Nanjangud on Wednesday.

Meghana's parents have accused her lover Manikanta of Hemmargala of abetting her suicide. The girl's father in his complaint has claimed that Manikanta threatened to send their photos to her fiance following which she took the extreme step. He has also claimed his daughter was molested by Manikanta two years ago.

Manikanta who is on the run has been booked for rape and abetting suicide following the complaint.

Since the girl was from the SC community, cops have also slapped cases under Atrocities (Prevention) Act against Manikanta. Nanjangud sub-division DSP Prabhkar Rao Shinde will investigate the case as charges have been made under provisions of the act.

Udupi, May 18: As many as eight fresh coronavirus positive cases have been reported in coastal districts of Udupi and Uttara Kannada. 

No fresh positive case was reported in Dakshina Kannada since yesterday.

According to Health and Family Welfare Department, two men aged 38 and 24 years, an 8-year-old boy and a 24-year-old woman tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today. 

All of them were under quarantine after returning from Maharashtra recently. They were shifted to covid-19 hospital for treatment. With this the number of covid-19 positive cases in Udupi district mounted to 15.

Meanwhile, Uttara Kannada district also received a jolt with four more cases. Yesterday it had reported eight cases.

Mangaluru, Feb 8: A speeding car fell off the newly-inaugurated Pumpwell flyover in the city after jumping the median and ramming into an oncoming car today. 

At least four persons have suffered injuries in the mishap involving a Maruti Alto and a Renault Duster. The condition of two is said to be extremely critical. The other two have suffered minor injuries.

The accident took place when the driver of the speeding Alto which was heading towards Kasaragod from Udupi lost control over his vehicle.

Towards the end of the flyover, car rammed into the divider and then hit the ill-fated Renault Duster which was coming from the opposite direction. The Alto then fell off the bridge. 

The accident caused traffic jam on the highway for some time. The flyover was inaugurated a week ago, after a decade long wait.
