Bhopal, Jan 5: A farmer in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district was shocked to receive Rs 2,000 currency notes without the image of Mahatma Gandhi from a branch of a public sector bank.

notesLaxman Meena, a farmer from Bichchhugawadi village, received three notes of Rs 2,000 when he withdrew money from the bank's branch at Baroda town in Sheopur.

"I was given three notes of Rs 2,000 on withdrawal from my account on Tuesday (December 3). I later found that there was no image of Mahatma Gandhi on those," Meena told PTI over phone today.

"I was in the market when I discovered that there was no picture of Mahatma Gandhi on the notes. I then went to the bank and and showed it to the manager," he said.
Meena said the branch manager told him to deposit those notes.

"Initially, the manger told me that I must have examined the notes on receiving them. Later, he, however, told me to deposit the notes and get them replaced," the farmer said.

The bank manager also clarified to him that the currency was genuine and there might have been a printing error. Meena said the bank replaced the notes yesterday.

Meanwhile, the in-charge branch manager of the bank told PTI over phone that he has sent the information to the lead bank manager of the district.

"I have nothing more to say. I have already submitted the information in this regard to the lead bank manager," he said.

Chamrajnagar, May 30: Karnataka Cabinet Minister Ramesh Jarakiholi said on Friday that over22 Congress MLAs were in touch with him and he can bring five of them.

"More than 22 Congress MLAs are in contact with me and if the high commands wants, I can bring five of them tomorrow," Jarakiholi told reporters.

Replying on speculation that some MLAs in BJP are not happy and want to join the Congress, he said, "Congress is a sinking boat and nobody wants to go to Congress now."

Meanwhile, sources in BJP have said that some party leaders are not happy including Basangouda Ramangouda Patil Yatnal.

Basvanagowda Patil said earlier this week that "BS Yediyurappa is not his CM, he is the CM of Karnataka. My leaders are Narendra Modi and JP Nadda."

The sources also said that other close aides of Yeddyurappa like Umesh Katti and Murugesh Nirani are no longer happy with him as they are yet to be included in the state cabinet.

The sources said Nirani has stood with Yeddyurappa but has not been included in the cabinet. There is speculation that several MLAs are in touch with Nirani.

Sources said Nirani, Umesh Katti, Basvanagowda Patil and several other leaders held a meeting in an undisclosed location.

Congress leader DK Suresh said the Congress has no role in the developments in BJP. "Yeddyurappa government will be brought down by their own MLAs. Congress has no role in it," he said.

Dubai, May 5: Saudi Arabian prosecutors have ordered the arrest of a Saudi citizen for insulting an Asian expatriate and abusing him for not embracing Islam.

A video went viral online showing the expat, apparently with little knowledge of the Arabic language, being insulated by an Arabic-speaking man who does not appear in the clip, for having not embraced Islam and for not fasting.

A monitoring centre affiliated with the public prosecution examined the video the content of which “shows the citizen’s use of abusive words against the Asian resident on the pretext of inviting him to Islam,” the prosecution source said.

“The public prosecution closely follows up whatever infringes rights of citizens and residents including harm to their dignity and legal rights regardless of pretexts of such infringement,” the source added.
