Fashion show, music and dance light up annual day at WGSHA, Manipal

Manipal, February 4: Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, WGSHA, celebrated its 26th Annual Day in Manipal on Friday.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Chef Vikas Khanna - an internationally renowned chef and co-host on famous television cooking reality show Master Chef India.

Anand Nayak, Head of HR, ITC India Limited, in his speech claimed that students prefer working with ITC because its vision and mission is beyond making profit and focused on skill development of students, giving them a strong platform to rise.

Mr. Khanna shared anecdotes from his life with the students and explained how he reached the heights of excellence, becoming the best Indian chef in the world. He was also awarded with the distinctive alumnus award by ITC.

Students of WGSHA were awarded with cash prizes and trophies on the occasion for exceptional academic results and overall performance through their course. Kul Mohan Singh, vice-president of WGSHA, presented the annual report for 2011-2012 in which he spoke about the infrastructure, placements, new courses, management training and orientation. He also spoke about the national and international conferences held by faculty members of WGSHA.

WGSHA students later entertained the guests with a fashion show and other cultural events like dance and band performances. 100 varieties of food from 12 different nationalities such as Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Indian and American were prepared and served to the guests by the students of the college.

WGSHA, famous for its cuisine, wine and dining, and culinary arts, has been the top hotel management college in India for four consecutive years.

Other dignitaries from Manipal University present at the event were Dr. Ramdas Pai, Chancellor, K. Ram Narayan, Vice-Chancellor, H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, G.K. Prabhu, registrar.

Kasaragod, Apr 3: Kerala reported nine new cases of coronavirus on Friday, with seven from the worst affected Kasaragod district, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the coastal district alone mounted to 136.

Besides, Kasaragod, one case each was detected from Thrissur and Idukki, he told reporters after a COVID-19 review meeting this evening.

Currently, 251 people are under treatment for the virus in the state and 14 were cured today, Vijayan said.

A total of 1.69 lakh people are under surveillence in the state and 706 are in various hospitals.

Two fatalities have been reported from the state so far.

Mangaluru, May 15: Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police on Friday warned those who are opposing quarantine to either go for it or face legal action under Epidemic Diseases Act.

In a release here on Friday, Mr B M Laxmi Prasad said that schools and hostels have been identified for quarantining those who arrive from other states. Those, who return, will be quarantined in the respective Gram Panchayat/local bodies’ jurisdiction. The public should not panic over the quarantine facility.

The quarantine facility has been introduced in the interest of the general public. If anyone opposes or protests against such facility, then legal action will be initiated against them, he warned.

Bengaluru, Aug 1: The Karnataka government on Friday brought in Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kamal Pant as the Bengaluru police Commissioner in a reshuffle of police personnel.

Pant comes in as the city police Commissioner in place of Bhaskar Rao.

According to a government order, Rao will handle internal security as ADGP, a post which was lying vacant due to the promotion of P S Sandhu.

Along with the two officials, ADGP B Dayananda who was in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and Economic Offences, has been made the new intelligence chief.
