Mangaluru, Oct 10: Mangaluru city police have reportedly detained a non-Indian resident in connection with the case of derogatory Facebook posts about Sri Durga Parameshwari of Kateel and other Hindu deities.

facebookpostAccording to sources, Shafi Bellare, a native of Sullia, is currently in custody of Mangaluru North Police, who are questioning him in connection with the case.

The derogatory comments against the Hindu goddess were posted on Facebook in October 2015 and were widely circulated. The Bantwal police registered a suo motu case a couple of months ago that was followed by a case registered by the Mangaluru North police.

Inspector Shantaram said that the suspect is still being questioned. DCP (Crime and Traffic) Dr Sanjeev M Patil, however, refused to confirm the development.

There are so many anti Muslim Facebook pages that not only makes mockery of Muslim Faith but also encourages violence against Muslims. Why aren't the police taking that as suo moto? I thought police protected interests of all people.

Bengaluru, Jan 18: The Karnataka state government has reportedly initiated the process to ban organizations like Popular Front of India (PFI).

State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday evening said that instructions have been given to the police and officers concerned to gather information about the activities of such organisations so that necessary inputs can be sent to the Center.

He made it clear that the action would not be limited against PFI and SDFI (Social Democratic Front of India), rather any organisation which is involved in such activities, would meet the same fate.

Mangaluru, Feb 13: After pro-Kannada outfits called for a state-wide bandh today, the police are on high-alert to avoid any untoward incidents.

The dawn to dusk bandh was called demanding implementation of Sarojini Mahishi report which recommended certain percentage of jobs to Kannadigas in private & public sector companies.

There is no official holiday declared for schools and colleges. Besides, all government institutions and private establishments are open.

But, in some parts of Karnataka, autorickshaws and taxis, including Ola and Uber stayed off the roads.

Even though the bandh is unlikely to hit normal life in coastal Karnataka, stones were pelted on a Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet.
