Female bank staff booked for swindling cash using customers' ATM cards

Kasaragod, Jun 29: The police have registered a case against a woman employee of the Kerala Gramin Bank's (KGB) Munnad branch here for allegedly swindling the bank of Rs. 1.61 lakh using ATM cards of three bank customers.

girlThe Bedakam police registered case against bank peon Manjusha Raj, 27, who was suspended from service. It is said that the employee had returned the money to the bank.

Recently, core banking facility was put in place in KGB branches across the State. While the ATM cards of customers of other banks are despatched through post, cards of KGB customers are routed through the bank, manager C. Chindankutty said.

The woman employee managed to withdraw cash from three bank accounts using the password details that reached the bank in sealed envelopes attached to the ATM cards.

The incident came to light after a customer reached the bank to withdraw cash and noticed that his account did not have sufficient balance.

On initial verification, it was found that money had been withdrawn from three accounts even though the customers had not been issued ATM cards from the bank.

Chennai, July 25: A widow living alone in her apartment in Chennai city suburbs has filed a police complaint against ABVP national president Dr Subbiah Shanmugam, accusing him of harassment, including urinating and throwing used surgical masks at her doorstep.

Shockingly, no action has been taken so far by the police, even though the complaint against Dr Shanmugam, who is in government service, was filed on July 11 at the Adambakkam Police Station here by the widow’s relative Balaji Vijayaraghavan. 

Dr Shanmugam and the 62-year-old widow were living in the same apartment complex in Nanganallur and an argument broke between them over a parking slot. “He wanted to use our parking lot. We agreed but demanded a nominal charge for using it. He was outraged by our demand and even broke our signboard at the parking lot,” Vijayaraghavan wrote in his complaint.

He also alleged that Dr Shanmugam began harassing her by throwing “pieces of chicken” outside her apartment despite knowing she is a vegetarian. Vijayaraghavan also alleged in his two-page written complaint that the ABVP National President had urinated outside the woman’s apartment gate and had been throwing garbage and used masks at her gate.

The 62-year-old woman has been living alone in her apartment for the last year following her husband’s death. In his complaint, Vijayaraghavan also said the family was “concerned about her safety”, while asking police to take action against Dr Shanmugam, who he says, “has a bad track record in maintaining rapport with neighbours.”

CCTV footage corroborates with the allegations of urinating outside the residence of the widow. However, the ABVP claimed the incident as a “malicious and derogatory propaganda” by the Congress’ student wing of NSUI.

This new feature activates refunds and credits the customer's source account across payment methods such as credit card, net banking, and UPI within a minute of initiation.

Tumkur, Feb 9: A special puja was performed at the Durga Parameshwari temple and the Shaneshwara temple in Karnataka's Rangana Halli village to save people from coronavirus.

Yashwanth Shastri, a priest, said: "We performed this special puja on Friday to save the world from virus and diseases like corona and H1N1."

"Our ancestors used to perform a special puja for the betterment of society and save the world from viruses when they attacked," he said.

Coronavirus originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year and has since spread to various cities around the world.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the coronavirus outbreak as a global health crisis.
