Fire in crackers market; 150 stalls, 30 vehicles gutted

Aurangabad, Oct 29: A major fire broke out today in a firecrackers market here, gutting more than 150 stalls and 30 vehicles parked nearby, but no casualty was reported, police officials said. The blaze started at around 11.45 am in the market set up on the occasion of Diwali at Zilla Parishad Ground under Krantipura Police Station in this Central Maharashtra city.

Over 150 firecracker stalls went up in flames, while 30 vehicles parked in and around the ground were also gutted, they said, adding no casualty has been was reported so far. Cause of the fire was not immediately known.

More than half a dozen fire engines accompanied with water tankers were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused in over an hour, the officials said. Smokes-laden with harmful chemicals billowed from the market and enveloped the area. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and other senior officers visited the spot and took stock of the situation.

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 11: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly using plastic scrap to make jaggery at Bhokaheri village under Bhopa police station here, as official said on Thursday.

 Police raided a jaggery manufacturing unite (kolhu) and arrested three persons on Wednesday, SHO, Bhopa police station Sanjive Kumar said.

Police have registered a case against five persons including the trio that was arrested while two of them managed to escape, he said, adding that two loaded tractor trollies of plastic scrap have been seized.

Gonda, Apr 9: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room as he was missing his wife stuck at her parents' place due to the lockdown, police said.

The incident took place in Radha Kund locality here on Wednesday, they said, adding the deceased has been identified as Rakesh Soni, 32.

As per information, Soni's wife had gone to her parents' place and was stuck there due to the lockdown and he was missing her due to which he committed suicide, Inspector Alok Rao said.

A probe is on in the mater, he said.
