Kasaragod, Feb 16: A fire that broke out at a bar outlet attached to a three-star hotel here destroyed the liquor stock and other properties on Thursday.
It took Fire and Rescue Services personnel and the police about two hours to put out the fire at Hotel Highway Castle at Nullipadi, about a kilometre from the municipal bus station. The fire, suspected to have caused by short-circuit, was noticed around 6 a.m.
Hotel property, including furniture and fittings, in the four-storey building suffered damage.
While the fire consumed the huge liquor stock, the rescue personnel had to evacuate quite a few occupants in the rented rooms to save them from the thick smoke billowing out from the bar outlet on the first floor, Kasaragod Town Principal Sub-Inspector P. Ajithkumar said.
