FIRs against BSY: ACB may move SC over HC stay

Bengaluru, Sept 27: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) may go to the Supreme Court against the stay given by the High Court of Karnataka on the investigation and further proceedings in two FIRs against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa over the denotification of Shivaram Karanath Layout.

The ACB has sought the opinion of its legal cell on moving the Supreme Court. A suitable decision will be taken based on the legal opinion, a source said.

The ACB had registered two FIRs on the basis of a complaint given byDr D Aiyappa over the denotification of 257 acres acquired for forming Shivaram Karanth Layout in northern Bengaluru.

The first FIR pertains to the land acquired in Avalahalli while the second is about the land acquired in Somashettihalli. The FIRs were registered under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 406, 420 and 120 B of the IPC.

Yeddyurappa had challenged both the FIRs (August 10 and 17). The high court granted the interim prayer sought by Yeddyurappa, negating the contentions put forth by the ACB.

Bengaluru, Jul 30: Karnataka reported 83 deaths and 6,128 new cases in the state on Thursday. With this, the total number of cases in the state stood at 1,18,632, the state health ministry said.

Currently, there are 69,700 active cases, while a total of 2,230 people have lost their lives due to the pandemic till now.

There are 15,83,792 confirmed cases across the country. Of them, 5,28,242 cases remain active. While 10,20,582 have recovered, 34,968 patients have lost their lives due to the pandemic.

Mangaluru, Jan 26: The Azizuddin Road of Mangaluru’s Bunder area, which had witnessed the brutal killing of two innocent passersby over a month ago, today witnessed the unfurling of Indian national flag by the kin of the police firing victim. 

49-year-old Abdul Jaleel Kandak, a father of two, and 23-year-old Nausheen Kudroli, were killed in an arbitrary and unwarranted police firing during a disturbance occurred due to police baton charge in the city on December 2019. 

A mixed feeling of patriotism and pain prevailed when a group of people gathered on the police firing spot to celebrate the 71st Republic Day of India. Family members of the victims were part of it.

It was Shifani, the daughter of Abdul Jaleel, who unfurled the flag and read out the preamble of the Indian constitution. 

“This is the spot where the constitution of the country was murdered,” said social activist Vidya Dinker, recalling the police firing. “The constitution is being murdered everyday in many states of India. We must regain the constitution and implement it everyday,” she added. 

Journalist Shahnaz M, DYFI leader Imtiyaz BK, SIO leader Talha, NWF leader Shahida Aslam and social activist Shabbir Ahmed were present among others.

Bengaluru, May 5: Karnataka Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar on Monday announced that the SSLC exams will be held as soon as possible, the officials have been asked to be prepared.

The guidelines have been given by the Primary Education Minister to all Deputy Directors of Education departments.

"Sanitisers, masks, screening, and all guidelines will be followed at exam halls," said Kumar in a statement.

Meanwhile, Karnataka has reported 651 COVID-19 positive cases so far, said State Health Department said on Monday.
