First phase of Ullal sea wall work to begin soon'

Malpe, August 7: Minister for Ports and Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojary has said that the work on construction of the first phase of a permanent sea wall to prevent sea erosion would be launched at Ullal in Dakshina Kannada district shortly.

He was speaking at a function to mark the inauguration of the MLA's Office at Malpe here. Later, he inaugurated the new road divider constructed on the Citizen Circle-Vadabhandeshwara Road and the street lamps on the road.

Mr. Poojary said the project of construction of permanent sea wall was being taken up at a cost of Rs. 911 crore. This project was being financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The construction of the permanent sea walls would go a long way in solving the problem of sea erosion, which was a permanent feature in the coastal districts of the State.

The Government was giving importance for the development of fisheries harbours in Udupi district. An amount of Rs. 9 crore had been allocated for the development of fisheries harbours at Hejmady, Kodikanyana, and Hungarcutta in the district. The Government was giving priority to the welfare of the fishermen in the State. It had allotted Rs. 24 crore for providing housing for the fishermen. An amount of Rs. 60,000 each would be provided by the Government for the construction of 4,000 houses for the fishermen, Mr. Poojary said.

MLAs Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji Mendon, Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju, president of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) Kiran Kumar, vice-president Bharati Chandrashekhar, former president Somashekhar Bhat, former vice-president Sudhakar Shetty, and councillor Yashpal Suvarna were present.

Mysuru, Mar 24:m who returned from foreign travel and flouted home quarantine guidelines has been arrested in Mysuru on Monday. 

The man, who returned from Australia, had a seal on his hand but was roaming around the city. 

According to police, he was supposed to be under home quarantine till April 6. V V Puram Police took him into custody.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: BJP leader CP Yogeshwar has slammed Yediyurappa supporters and said the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is supporting BJP.

Speaking to the reporters, Yogeshwar said, "Congress president DK Shivakumar and Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, both are Yediyurappa supporters."

"His words seem to support the BJP. All that Kumaraswamy had said, during our government's rule, are happening including the officers they mentioned are being transferred. He has come forward to support BJP from the back door," Yogeshwar.

While reacting to allegations made by CP Yogeshwar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar has said that earlier Yogeshwar requested for State Legislative Council (MLC) member ticket and now such people are blaming me without any evidence. This shows his dishonesty to his party and the kind of person he is."

Mangaluru, May 27: Karnataka’s twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today reported 11 and 9 fresh covid-19 cases respectively.

In Dakshina Kannada the covid-19 patients include seven women and four men who had recently come from Maharashtra.

One of the patients is a 3-year-old child. Others are girls aged 11 and 17, women aged 36, 37, 45, 59 and men aged 22, 35, 39 and 46.

All of them have been shifted to covid-19 hospital from different institutional quarantine centres. 

In Udupi too all the nine people – six men, a boy, and two women -  had come from Maharashtra a few days ago.
