Mangalore, April 11: The district administrations of all three coastal districts of Karnataka have declared high alert and asked the fishermen not to venture in the sea owing to the Tsunami alert.
Though the reports have indicated that there is no tsunami threat to the west coast of India, the administrations in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada have taken all precautions.
A large number of fishing boats on Wednesday evening were forced to return to the ports in Mangalore, Malpe and Karwar half way through the fishing voyage.
Following quake tremors being felt in various parts of the state, the deputy commissioners of these three districts sent out prohibitory orders on fishing at sea.
In an official order, DCs asked the fishermen who were at sea already to return and not venture into fishing until the next order is issued by the district administrations.
Quake tremors were felt in various parts of the state including coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi a few minutes after a massive earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.9 hit waters off westernmost Aceh province in Indonesia.
