Flood situation in Karnataka continues to remain grim

Bengaluru, Aug 11 (UNI) With the flood situation in Karnataka in over 17 districts continued to be grim, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be is conducting an aerial survey in Belagavi, the worst affected districts in the state, on Sunday afternoon.

According to official sources, Amit Shah will arrive to Belagavi in the afternoon, and immediately will leave to conduct an Aerial survey of the flood-hit taluks, including Chikkodi, Kagwada, Gokak and Athani taluks.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, will also accompany the Union Home Minister, and appraise him about the severe flood conditions in the state, the measures taken by the state government to tackle the natural disaster to him.

Flood situation in the Cauvery basin remain very serious

The unprecedented rain and flood situation in the Cauvery Basin region worsened today as the discharge from the reservoirs from the river and its tributaries surpassed danger mark by many levels.

The combined water discharge from Cauvery and Kabini reservoirs Surpassed 2.4 lakh cusecs this morning and people living on the banks of the two rivers were shifted to safer places to relief centres that but the food and drinking water was scarce amid the deluge in these gruel centres, the victims of the flood said on Sunday.

The major reservoir of Krishnarajasagar across Cauvery has been receiving very heavy inflow of 1,87,721cusces due to unprecedented rain in the catchment areas coming under Kodagu district. While the discharge from the dam was 1,19,997 cusecs with level reading 118,75 feet against just short of the maximum level of 124.8 feet.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: The Doctors at Fortis Hospital, here on Friday, successfully treated a 97-year-old patient who suffered an embolic stroke due to calcified stenosis (narrowing of an artery resulting in restriction of blood flow).

In a release, the Hospital authorities stated that the team of doctors led by Dr Rajpal Singh, Director and Interventional Cardiologist, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore successfully conducted Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS) to increase the blood flow in the blocked areas which had resulted in stroke following stringent safety protocols and ensuring proper segregation of COVID and Non-COVID patients at the hospital.

Carotid arteries serve as the main channels which supply the blood flow to the brain and facial structures. Any significant narrowing in these arteries can cause a brain stroke, a mini-stroke, headache, and neurological symptoms.

Gadag, Aug 1: A woman in Gadag district of Karnataka mortgaged her 'mangalsutra' to buy a television set for her children following the Karnataka government's decision to continue the classes through TV amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A resident of Radder Naganur village, Kasturi, who is also a mother of two, purchased a television set against her 'mangalsutra' for Rs 14,000. She bought the TV after her children's school teachers asked them to attend classes via the television set.

Kasturi said, "I can not send the children to the neighbours' house every day and it was necessary for them to study. We had no other option but to buy a TV set."

She said, "Both, my husband and I are daily wage workers and during coronavirus, we do not have work or money."

"I sold my 'mangalsutra' for Rs 20,000 and bought a TV for Rs 14,000," said Kasturi while happily adding, "Now, my kids can study at home itself."

Kasturi's daughter, Surekha said, "We did not have the TV for several months but now when we have it, we will study and get a bigger 'mangalsutra' for my mother."

Bengaluru, May 27: Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday hit out at Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa-led Karnataka government for allegedly "betraying" the people by not fulfilling its Rs 1,610 crore COVID-19 package promise.

Taking a dig at Yediyurappa over the matter, the Congress leader tweeted, "Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has betrayed people by not fulfilling his Rs 1,610 crore package promise. He seems to be following his @BJP4India leader @PMOIndia @narendramodi."

"Crisis and vulnerability should not be misused for political gains and BJP for India is insensitive towards the same," the former Karnataka Chief Minister said.

On May 6, Yediyurappa had urged migrant workers to stay back as construction activities have resumed and announced a Rs 1,610 crores COVID-19 financial package for the state.

"A package of Rs 1,610 crores will be released as COVID-19 financial relief. One time compensation of Rs 5,000 will be given to 2,30,000 barbers and 7,75,000 drivers," the Chief Minister said.

Referring to media reports, Siddarmiah cornered the state government for asking the licence to release funds for unorganised sector workers.

"How can we expect washermen and other unorganised sector workers to have licence for their work?" he asked.

It looks like Karnataka Chief Minister is very far from reality, he added.
