Belagavi, Aug 26: Former chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council Rambhau Bhimrao Potdar passed away on Saturday due to ill health in Belagavi. He was 93. 
The veteran Janata Pariwar leader, known as showman of Belagavi is survived by wife and son.
He served as the cooperative minister in Ramakrishna Hegde’s cabinet and later went on to become Karnataka Legislative Council chairman. He was also the chairman and director of The Belgaum Pioneer Urban Cooperative Bank and founder of Markendeya Cooperative Sugar Factory.
He played the key role in the establishment of APMC here for which 80 acres of land had been sanctioned from the government.
Potdar had graduated from Ferguson College, Pune and was a theatre lover.
He was also close associate of Ramakrishna Hegde, H D Devegowda, Veerandra Patil and Morarji Desai. He had been keeping away from public life due to ill health in recent years.
