Former defence minister AK Antony's driver commits suicide

New Delhi, Jan 5: Former Defence Minister A.K. Antony's driver on Friday committed suicide at the official residence of the senior Congress leader here, police said.

Police said the deceased, Sanjay Singh, 35, a native of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, worked as driver of A.K. Antony and his family.

Singh was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the servant quarter of the Jantar Mantar Road residence around 12.15 p.m. and police were informed.

"No suicide note was found from the spot. Prima facie, Singh committed suicide late at night after all staff members has gone to sleep. When he did not come out from his room till late in the morning, a staff member went to check on him. He saw Singh hanging from a ceiling fan," Additional Commissioner of Police B.K. Singh said.

"During investigation, no foul play has come to the notice of the police team. It appears that Singh was depressed over some family problem since a couple of days. He was working for Antony and his family for the last few years," Singh added.

His family members have been informed. The postmortem report was awaited, the police officer added.

Jaipur, Mar 29: A batch of 275 Indians evacuated from coronavirus-hit Iran arrived at the Jodhpur airport on Sunday morning, an official said.

He said a preliminary screening of the passengers was conducted at the airport and thereafter, they were shifted to the Army Wellness Facility set up at the Jodhpur Military Station.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rohit Kumar Singh said of the 275 passengers, there were 133 women and 142 men, including two infants and four children.

New Delhi, Jul 20: Alleging that 2,426 companies have "looted" people's savings to the tune of Rs 1.47 lakh crore from banks, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government will conduct a probe into it to punish those guilty.

"2,426 companies looted 1.47 lakh crore rupees of people's savings from banks. Will this government investigate this loot and punish the culprits?" Gandhi said on Twitter, without elaborating.

"Or will it allow them to flee like Nirav and Lalit Modi?" he asked.

Gandhi's attack came after media reports claimed that the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) had released a list of 2,426 borrower accounts that have been categorised as “wilful defaulters” with dues amounting to Rs 1,47,350 crore to the banking system.

New Delhi, Jun 9: BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and his mother Madhavi Raje Scindia have tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital, India Today reported on Tuesday.

They were admitted on Monday to Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, after the two complained of throat irritation and fever.

"Not so good news: @JM_Scindia and his mother have tested positive for corona, The former Cong turned BJP leader from MP has been admitted to hospital.. Wish him a speedy recovery!" tweeted Rajdeep Sardesai, consulting editor at the India Today group.

Scindia, former Congress MP from Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh, quit the party and joined BJP last March. Scindia, who was once Minister of State with independent charge for Power, is the BJP candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh.
