Former Karnataka Minister and Noted Social Leader Vaijanath Patil Dies at 82

Bengaluru, Nov 2: Former minister of Karnataka and noted social leader, Vaijanath Patil passed away in Bengaluru on Saturday morning. The 82-year-old Patil was admitted to Fortis Hospital for prolonged illness.

As the president of Hyderabad-Karnataka Horata Samithi, Patil led mass movements for getting Special Status under 370(J) to the region amending the Constitution which was a long pending demand of the people.

Patil had also served as the horticultural minister in the then CM Ramakrishna Hegde’s cabinet in 1984 and later took over the portfolio of the Urban Development Department in the HD Deve Gowda cabinet in 1994.

Patil is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons including former chairperson of MSIL Dr Vikram Patil and Zilla Panchayat member Gautam Patil.  His last rites will be held at Chincholi in Kalaburagi district on Sunday.

Mangaluru, Jul 7: The residents of Bangle Gudde, Mathadagudde area in Gurupura Gram Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, where two teen aged children were buried alive, were shifted to safer places.

District officials said on Tuesday that the residents have been provided temporary shelter in Gurpur school, PU college, and hostels, while few others were shifted to Ashraya centers. Total 40 houses out of 180 houses in this area located in the red zone were damaged due to heavy rain.

If the residents want to stay in the rented house, the revenue department is ready to pay a sum of Rs 2,500 towards rent, official sources said.

Mangaluru, Mar 30: Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Natekal, has started online tele-consultation service in the constituent Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre amid fear of corona spread.
 
A statement issued here on Monday said, under this service people can contact the doctors sitting in their home. The doctors will give tele-consultation and medical advice for their health problems through WhatsApp. As per the Kanachur Hospital announcement for this purpose the specialist doctors of nine departments will give their tele-consultation from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs.
 
The people who are not having the social media service (WhatsApp) from rural areas they can directly contact the concerned department specialists over phone by informing the disease details and obtain advises from the doctors through the hospital landline number 0824-2888000.

Bengaluru, Feb 27: Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Wednesday said the Union Government will take up the issue of establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru during bilateral talks with the US officials in the future.

Speaking at a seminar on Videsh Sampark here, Mr Muraleedharan said after Delhi and Mumbai, a large number of visa applications come from Bengaluru. “We will take up the issue of establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru during bilateral talks,” he said.

Earlier, the chief secretary of Karnataka TM Vijay Bhaskar urged the centre to consider the state government’s demand of setting up a US Consulate in Bengaluru. At the moment visa applicants have to travel to Chennai for the purpose.
