Former Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo loses Rs 49k after revealing his PIN to caller

Mangaluru, Jul 7: This time a scamster has duped a politician! Congress leader and former MLA of Mangaluru City South J R Lobo is the latest victim of online bank fraud as he lost Rs 49,000 from his account.

In his complaint to Mangaluru East police station on Thursday, Lobo stated that he received a call from a scamster, who introduced himself as an employee of State Bank of India. 

The caller after gaining confidence of the former MLA asked him to update his bank account and made him reveal details of his debit card including PIN and OTP. 

Thereafter, the money in his account was siphoned off through three different transactions. Lobo, a former KAS officer, later filed a complaint.

Lobo came to know that he was conned only after receiving debit alerts from the bank. A complaint under Information Technology Act was registered and investigation is under process.

Mysuru, Apr 7 Following a tiger at Bronx Zoo in the US, testing positive for COVID-19, Mysuru Zoo authorities here have taken measures to contain the spread of the dreaded disease as per the directions of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA).

The Zoo is on alert and the animal keepers are not allowed to enter the enclosures without safety gear. It is mandatory for the personnel to undergo thermal screening before entering the Zoo. The personnel are provided with safety gears such as masks, gloves and Sanitisers. The CZA has directed to spray disinfectants near the enclosures of the animals and has also directed to monitor the animals’ behavior.

Zoo Authority of Karnataka Member Secretary B P Ravi said, "COVID-19 was detected in a domestic cat two weeks back in Hong Kong. Due to the outbreak of bird flu in Mysuru, we have taken all precautionary measures to combat COVID-19."

Bengaluru, May 15: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday announced further relief package to the lockdown affected people.

Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said about Rs 500 crore would be earmarked to distribute to over 10 lakh farmers, who had grown Jowar and also cash compensation to the shepherds who would lose sheep and goats due to natural disasters.

While commending the efforts of the ASHA workers, who are remained in the frontline in fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Minister said an additional Rs 3000 would be remitted to their bank accounts as an incentive.

The Chief minister had announced Rs 1610 crore cash relief package to benefit the auto drivers, barbers and washermen, last week.

He had also announced relief package to the farmers, and migrant workers and construction workers.

Replying to questions, he denied that by bringing amendment to the APMC Act, farmers would be suffered.

Brushing aside the criticism over an ordinance brought to the APMC Act by the Opposition Congress and the JD(S), the Chief Minister said “Amendment had been brought after taking care that farmers interests will not be adversely affected”.
