Bagalkot, Sept 7: At least seven persons including former Hungund MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar suffered injuries when workers of Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress clashed during elections to posts in the primary agriculture credit co-operative bank.

Polls were being held for the posts of president and vice president. Trouble started when Congress leader Kashappanavar entered the bank office and this was opposed by the BJP side. A verbal duel ensued, following which the two sides clashed.

Window panes of the bank and the CCTV cameras installed on the premises of the bank were broken in stone-throwing. There were not many policemen deployed on the bank premises at the time of the elections.

Kashappanavar’s car and a police vehicle were damaged in the incident.  The injured have been admitted to the civil hospital for treatment.
