Four extremely weird diet tricks to help you lose weight!

September 26, 2016

New Delhi, Sep 26: It's possible that almost every one in this world has tried one diet or another to lose weight. Some have achieved their desired weight and some are probably still trying.

avocadoWe're also sure that many people must have tried taking an unconventional route to lose those extra kilos. Caught you!

Every single person on this planet is different from one another, therefore, it is evident that every body type differs as well.

Trying different things that will suit you and your metabolism, as well as your body mass index (BMI) is natural, but did you know that there are a few absolutely weird diet tricks that people claim work in their favour?

They may sound nothing out of a diet book or a diet chart, but you never know, they might be just what you're looking for.

Check them out!

1. Drinking water before meals:

This is the easiest trick you can adopt, which also has a confirmation by a study published in the journal Obesity. This also has a logical reasoning behind it – the fact that drinking water before meals will satisfy a bit of your hunger so that you take lesser servings, thereby consuming lesser calories. Secondly, it's good for you because doing this also increases one's metabolic rate.

2. Visualize your previous meal:

It's perfectly normal to feel hungry soon after a filling meal, but there are people who give in to tempation very easily and then end up feeling guilty. However, there's a way out. If you've been through this phase more often than not, all you need to do is visualise your previous meal. This will definitely help you and stop you from snacking too much during the course of the day. Probably this is the reason they ask you to just 'think thin'!

3. Colour coordinate your meals:

Although strange, this is a fun way of assuring a low calorie intake. Eat your food in colourful plates and make sure you choose food that is in contrast to your plate colour. This sounds way weird, but a Cornell study found this to be true. For example, if you have two types of Pasta – arabiatta (red sauce) and alfredo (white sauce) – try eating the pasta in red sauce on a white plate and the white sauce pasta on a red plate. There will be a distinct change in the quantity of serving.

4. Smell your food before eating:

Quite laughable, yes, but this definitely works. We not only eat with our eyes, but also with our noses even before we get to eating with our stomachs. A study published in the journal Flavour found that we tend to eat less if the smell is strong. So basically, the fragrance or aroma of food has a big role to play in our satisfaction. Therefore, take in the delicious aroma of your food before sinking your teeth in it and try to sense the ingredients that have been added, like herbs, seasonings, spices, etc. It's okay to let your mouth water.

Even if you keep a water bottle alongside you, walking to the kitchen for water will help your physical body get some much needed movement.

Few iterations of square breathing once in two hours is a great way to boost your mind and body. Square breathing is basically the sequence of inhalation - holding breath - exhalation - holding breath - all for equal time spans. So you can count mentally 1 to 4 in inhalations, then again counting 1 to 4 as you hold your breath, and so on and so forth.

You can also chant any mantra while taking a work break for 1 or 2 minutes. While attending online meetings, where there is nothing much your hands are doing, you can utilize that time to do Yoga Hast/Hand Mudras and harness their energies. Pran Mudra is one of the best options to practice while attending meetings or reading articles, where your hands are free essentially.

Go out on your terrace/balcony once or twice a day to get some fresh air, sunlight and hear birds chirping

Drinking coffee may help reduce the risk of certain digestive disorders, including gallstone disease and pancreatitis, a new study has suggested.

The study from the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC) also highlighted other beneficial effects that coffee consumption may have on the process of digestion, including supporting gut microflora and promoting gut motility.

"Data indicates benefits against common digestive complaints such as constipation, as well as a potential reduction in the risk of more serious conditions like chronic liver diseases," said study author Carlo La Vecchia from the University of Milan in Italy.

Gallstone disease is a common digestive disorder, caused by the accumulation of gallstones in the gallbladder or bile duct, which affects approximately 10-15 per cent of the adult population.

While the mechanism by which coffee may protect against gallstone disease is not yet known, it has been observed that the risk for the condition declines with increasing daily consumption of coffee, the researchers said.

Caffeine is thought to play a role in these associations, as the same effect is not observed with decaffeinated coffee.

A common question among consumers and focus area for research is whether coffee is associated with heartburn or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).

While a small number of studies have suggested an association between coffee drinking and GORD, the majority of studies reviewed suggest that coffee is not a major trigger of these conditions.

The report also reviewed a growing area of health and nutrition research, namely: the effect of coffee on the gut microflora (microorganism populations).

Recent studies suggest that populations of the beneficial gut bacteria Bifidobacterium spp, increase after drinking coffee.

The findings showed the dietary fibre and polyphenols found in coffee, support the healthy growth of microflora populations.

Additional research findings highlighted that coffee consumption is thought to stimulate digestion by encouraging the release of gastric acid, bile and pancreatic secretions.

Coffee is one of the most widely researched components of the diet, and its effect on digestion remains a growing area of research, the researchers noted.

New York, Jul 30: Can the coronavirus spread through the air? Yes, it's possible.

The World Health Organisation recently acknowledged the possibility that Covid-19 might be spread in the air under certain conditions.

Recent Covid-19 outbreaks in crowded indoor settings — restaurants, nightclubs and choir practices — suggest the virus can hang around in the air long enough to potentially infect others if social distancing measures are not strictly enforced.

Experts say the lack of ventilation in these situations is thought to have contributed to spread, and might have allowed the virus to linger in the air longer than normal.

In a report published in May, researchers found that talking produced respiratory droplets that could remain in the air in a closed environment for about eight to 14 minutes.

The WHO says those most at risk from airborne spread are doctors and nurses who perform specialized procedures such as inserting a breathing tube or putting patients on a ventilator.

Medical authorities recommend the use of protective masks and other equipment when doing such procedures.

Scientists maintain it's far less risky to be outside than indoors because virus droplets disperse in the fresh air, reducing the chances of Covid-19 transmission.
