Four killed as bus rams into Innova car on Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway

Mangaluru, Jul 10: Three men and a woman, all aged between 26 and 30 years, were killed and two others suffered injuries when a private bus rammed into a Toyota Innova on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Highway near Hassan on Sunday.

crashThe deceased have been identified as Shubham Tiwari (26), Ragini Pande (28), Gourav (28) - all beloning to Madhya Pradesh who were employed in private companies in Bengaluru, and the driver Shankaramurthy (30), a resident of Sanjeevini Nagar in Bengaluru.

Aman Preethi and another person, also from Madhya Pradesh, suffered serious injuries.

The accident happened around 2.45 a.m. The five in the car were heading towards Mangaluru, source said.

Vehicular movement on the highway was hit for a few minutes, following the accident. Hassan Police reached the spot and took the injured person to a private hospital.

The bodies have been kept in Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences in Hassan.

Bengaluru, Jun 30: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday demanded setting up of an all-party committee to monitor treatment-related issues in hospitals and said there are allegations of "corruption and nepotism" in the management of COVID-19 treatment.

Siddaramaiah said in a tweet that Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa should immediately form all-party monitoring committee.

"This is very much needed to increase public confidence in the backdrop of several complaints," he said.
"There are allegations of corruption and nepotism in the management of COVID-19 treatment. It is need of the hour to manage this unprecedented health crisis with public safety as the only objective," he said in another tweet.

He urged the Chief Minister to make the treatment protocol clear to the patients and instil hope. "Do not keep them in dark," he said.

The senior Congress leader also urged the Chief Minister to extend insurance and other benefits to private hospital doctors, nurses and support staff.
Karnataka has reported a total of 14,295 COVID-19 cases.

Bagalkot, April 4: A COVID-19 positive patient passed away in Karnataka's Bagalkot on Friday, taking the total number of deaths in the state to four, informed the Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 2650 including 184 people who have been discharged or cured or migrated, and 68 deaths, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mangaluru, Jun 29: As many as 49 fresh covid-19 cases were reported in Dakshina Kannada district in past 24 hours taking the district’s tally to 568.

At the same time 38 persons were also discharged from the hospital after complete recovery from covid 19.

Out of the 49 positive cases, 14 persons had returned from Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar. 17 persons had contracted the disease from patient number 9590. 3 persons are suffering from an influenza-like illness (ILI), and 4 persons are suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection.

The health officials are tracing the contacts of six others. All the 49 persons have been shifted to hospital for treatment. Most of them are said to be asymptomatic.
