Fresh private complaint against BSY

Bangalore, Feb 17: A new private complaint has been filed in the Special Lokayukta Court alleging illegal denotification of land by former chief minister B?S?Yeddyurappa.

The complainant Hunsur K Chandrashekar, who is the Founder President of Praja Kranthi party, stated that Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had obtained 6 acres and 18 guntas of land in Halagevaderahalli in Rajarajeshwarinagar belonging to Basappa in Survey No 251 for the development of Banashankari 5th stage Layout.bsy1

BDA issued the final notification and awarded compensation and the land was transferred to BDA in 2002. In 2008, BDA cleared the land of all encroachments and began the formation of a layout and about 66 houses were constructed.

In 2004, Ananda and Ratnamma approached the then chief minister S?M Krishna and stated that they owned 5 acres of land in Survey No 251 and they had originally acquired the land for the purpose of constructing a school which would impart free education.

They sought denotification of the land as they wanted to construct the school on the land. The S M Krishna government rejected the appeal. Futher, the same application was made in 2006 before the then-Chief Minister H?D Kumaraswamy which was also rejected.

Later, they approached the Yeddyurappa government and also sought endorsement for their application from Nippani MLA Kaka Saheb and Tumkur MP G S Basavaraju.

When Yeddyurappa sought the opinion on the matter, his officers raised objections on several grounds including the fact that there was a High Court order preventing the denotification and that the BDA had already started construction. Then Commissioner of BDA Siddaiah also opined that they needed the land for the formation of the Layout.

Despite all this, Yeddyurappa ordered denotification of the land on humanitarian grounds.

Chandrashekar alleged that once the land was denotified, Anand and Ratnamma sold it to builders and an apartment complex was constructed on the land. The matter has been adjourned to February 19.

New Delhi, Feb 11: The government has decided to rename National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM), Faridabad, as Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management, an official statement said on Tuesday.

Set up in 1993 as a registered society under the Department of Expenditure, NIFM trains officers of Finance and Accounts Services recruited by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as also officers of Indian Cost Accounts Service. The Union Finance Minister is the President of the NIFM Society.

"Aligning the vision and aspiration of the Institute for the future with the vision and contribution of late Arun Jaitley, the Government has decided to rename National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM) as the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management(AJNIFM)," the statement said.

NIFM has become a premier resource centre to meet the training needs of the central government for senior and middle level of management in the fields of public policy, financial management, public procurement and other governance issues for promoting highest standards of professional competence and practice.

Padma Vibhushan awardee Jaitley was the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs during May 26, 2014 to May 30, 2019.

New Delhi, Jul 29: Coronavirus infections in India continue to mount as the country's total case tally crossed the 15-lakh mark.

India added 48,513 fresh cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally to over 15.3 lakh, according to the Health Ministry’s 8 a.m. update on July 29.

India’s coronavirus epidemic is growing at the fastest pace in the world, increasing 20% over the last week, according to Bloomberg’s Coronavirus Tracker. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are among the states where the maximum number of daily cares are being reported.

Fresh cases continued to come in at a heightened pace, hovering just below 50,000 for the last six days.

Moderna Inc.’s vaccine candidate against Covid-19 protected against the virus in a trial that inoculated 16 monkeys, an encouraging step on the path to a defense for humans against the pandemic. Pfizer Inc., however, is preparing for the novel coronavirus to endure, leading to long-term demand for a seasonal shot to protect against Covid-19.

“There is a likely scenario that either the vaccine’s immunity will not be lasting forever,” said Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla in an interview Tuesday, “or that the virus will mutate, or that the virus will find ways to come back again and again.”

Even as the transmission rate of Covid-19 remains high in India, the pace of recovery has risen too. On Wednesday, India reported its third day of over 35,000 recoveries.

Global Update

Flare-ups in virus cases from Hong Kong to Europe are proving difficult for policy makers to wrangle. The U.S. neared 150,000 deaths from Covid-19, even as daily infections slowed in some hard-hit states. China reported 101 new cases, up from 68 a day earlier, with 98 of the total from local infections, mostly in Xinjiang.

Philippine health authorities warned that hospitals and infirmaries risk getting overwhelmed.

Globally, confirmed Covid-19 cases have topped 16.6 million with over 658,000 dead.

Lucknow, Jul 24: A special CBI court on Friday recorded the statement of veteran BJP leader LK Advani in the Babri mosque demolition case.

The statement of the 92-year-old former deputy prime minster was recorded through video conferencing in the court of special Judge S K Yadav.

On Thursday, the court recorded the statement of BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi in the case.
