Bengaluru, Jun 18: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah’s disagreement over a new full-budget for 2018-19 has not only upset Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, it has also discomfited his own party colleagues, forcing them to take sides.

On Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and cabinet colleague D K Shivakumar indirectly batted for Kumaraswamy, by saying they were uncertain about the intent behind Siddaramaiah’s remarks.

Siddaramaiah had, on Saturday, had taken exception to Kumaraswamy’s budget plan by stating there was no need for a new budget and that the chief minister could announce his new programmes through a supplementary budget.

Kumaraswamy had countered it, saying it had been a practice for a new government to present a full budget.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Parameshwara seconded Kumaraswamy’s opinion.

“It’s a common practice for new governments to evolve their own programmes and announce the same in the budget. I’m not sure in what context Siddaramaiah made such a statement,” he said.

Reiterating that the coordination committee had decided to continue all programmes/welfare schemes of the previous Congress regime, Parameshwara said, “Efforts are on to combine the old and new proposals. A drafting committee for preparing the common minimum programme has been set up. The committee will submit its report to the co-ordination committee in the next 10 days. Until then, no decision will be taken.”

Bengaluru, Feb 4: A 33-year old woman techie allegedly stabbed her mother to death and made a murderous assault on her younger brother before fleeing their home here, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman fatally stabbed her mother using a knife and attacked the brother early on Monday.

The injured brother has been hospitalised here.

A search was on for the techie and the motive for her action under investigation, police said.

The woman, employed as a software engineer with a company here, earlier had told her mother and 30-year old brother that she has been transferred to Hyderabad and she may have to relocate.

The brother told police that in the early morning on Monday he saw his sister searching something desperately and offered to assist, which she refused.

However, minutes later she made a murderous assault on him, he told police, adding when he screamed for help and called his mother, his sister said she has killed their mother.

She stabbed him and attacked with an iron rod before fleeing, her brother told police.

The body of the mother was found in another room in the house.

"We are still investigating the matter. We are not clear about the motive behind the murder," a police officer told media adding the woman was yet to be arrested.

Bengaluru, Jul 25: Kalmane Kamegowda, the lake man who was recently praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent Mann Ki Baat, is in serious condition after he tested positive for COVID-19, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said on Saturday.

"The health condition of Lake Kamegowda is serious. It is our responsibility to save him. I demand that the state government make appropriate arrangements for emergency treatment," Kumaraswamy tweeted.

"The Prime Minister also praised him in Mann Ki Baat. Chief Ministers expressed appreciation. Only praising doesn't help him at this point of time. The government needs to come forward to treat him in a good hospital when he's sick," he said in the following tweet.

Kamegowda of Dasanadoddi village in Malavalli taluk had drawn the attention of the Prime Minister in the 66th 'Mann Ki Baat' for constructing ponds to conserve rainwater during the summer.

Responding to Kumaraswamy's remark, State Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar K said that he has already called up the Mandya Medical College and directed the hospital to admit and treat Kamegowda.

"As soon as I noticed the seriousness of Kamagowad's health, I called the director of the Mandya Medical College and informed him that he should be admitted to the hospital and treated. I pray to the Lord that the Kamagowadas who inspire the whole country will heal soon," Sudhakar K tweeted.
