Funeral procession leads to chaos in BC Road; stones pelted at shops, vehicles

Mangaluru, Jul 8: In spite of heavy police deployment, the communally sensitive town of BC Road in Bantwal taluk on Saturday witnessed chaos as miscreants resorted to pelt stones at shops and vehicles.

The stone pelting took place when the funeral procession of murdered RSS activist Sharath Madivala was nearing BC Road. Thousands of Sangh Parivar activists are taking part in the funeral procession.

Meanwhile, hundreds of saffron activists have gathered in B C Road in violation of the prohibitory orders for the second consecutive day.

Police resorted to baton charge to bring the situation under control when the mob began to pelt stones at shops, buses and other vehicles at Kaikamba in BC Road.

All shops and business establishments in BC Road, Melkar and Farangipete towns have been shut down as part of precautionary measures.

28-year-old Sharath breathed his last at a hospital in Mangaluru last evening three days after he was stabbed by unidentified miscreants in B C Road. More details are awaited.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries Jagadish Shettar warned of strict action against officers who demand bribe from farmers while acquiring land.

Mr Shettar, who paid a surprise visit to defense, aerospace hi-tech industry layout in Haraluru, Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural district, warned the officials who demand a bribe for sanctioning compensation funds.

He said, 'Lands have been acquired from farmers for the development of the industrial area. It's the duty of state government to provide compensation to these farmers. Complaints must be registered against officials who demand a bribe for functioning compensation funds.'

Mysuru, Mar 6: A woman was murdered by her husband in front of her father in the wee hours of Friday at her home in Hosakamanakoppal, Yelwal hobli here, police said on Friday.

The police said the deceased is Mamatha, a native of Periyapatna who was married to Nagesh of Hosakamanakoppal about seven years ago. The couple has a six-year-old son. Mamatha was Nagesh’s second wife as his first wife had allegedly committed suicide.

It is said that Nagesh was addicted to liquor and gambling and used to fight with Mamatha over petty reasons. 

Yesterday night too, there was a fight between the couple and Mamatha’s father pacified both of them and all of them went to sleep later.

Mysuru, Feb 14: Two weeks after her engagement with another boy, a 20-year-old girl who was in love with a boy, committed suicide at her residence in Nanjangud on Wednesday.

Meghana's parents have accused her lover Manikanta of Hemmargala of abetting her suicide. The girl's father in his complaint has claimed that Manikanta threatened to send their photos to her fiance following which she took the extreme step. He has also claimed his daughter was molested by Manikanta two years ago.

Manikanta who is on the run has been booked for rape and abetting suicide following the complaint.

Since the girl was from the SC community, cops have also slapped cases under Atrocities (Prevention) Act against Manikanta. Nanjangud sub-division DSP Prabhkar Rao Shinde will investigate the case as charges have been made under provisions of the act.
