Girl dead, 27 others ill from eating chaat

Shahjahanpur, Jan 25: A 14-year-old girl died and some 27 people, most of them children, were taken ill after eating chaat sold by a vendor selling snacks on a handcart at Khanousa village near Gola city in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday evening. The condition of eight of the children was said to be serious. They were taken to the district hospital in Lakhimpur city. The others were admitted to the community health centre in Gola city.

chaatThough no FIR was registered, the girl's body was sent for post-mortem on Tuesday. Samples of the chaat were sent for tests, police said.

The incident happened under Hyderabad police station. SHO Pradeep Mishra said, "Around 27 people fell ill after eating snacks on Monday evening. Later, a girl died. We have sent the body for a post-mortem to confirm the reason for he death while the other victims of food poisoning are now out of danger. Further action against the snack-seller will be taken on the basis of the reports. "

All the people who had the chaat had complained of stomach ache and vomiting. By midnight, they were admitted to a nearby hospital.

According to reports, Poonam, 14, was taken to the nearest health centre where she was discharged after being given treatment. When she reached home, her condition worsened and she died before any further medical aid could be provided to her. By that time, many other children were also rushed to the hospital .

On Tuesday morning, chief medical officer Javed Ahmad sent a team of experts to the village to ensure that timely treatment is given to those affected. The medical experts suspect those ill were suffering from food poisoning and distributed medicines to all those who had the chaat. A medical camp has been set up at the village for the next two days.

Kishori Lal, Poonam's father, was not sure if his daughter died of food poisoning. He claimed that even those who did not eat the chaat had taken ill. There are serious hygiene issues at the village and local administration has ignored them, he added.

Station officer of Hyderabad police station Pradeep Mishra, tehsildar Mahendra Pal, CMO Javed Ahmad, in charge of Gola community health centre Amit Vajpai and a team of doctors visited the village after receiving news of several people falling ill.

Bareilly (UP), May 19: Samajwadi leader Chhotelal Diwakar and his son, Sunil Diwakar, were shot dead in broad daylight in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The entire incident was caught on camera.

The murder was apparently a fallout of a dispute over laying of a road under MGNREGA.

Chhotelal Diwakar had contested the 2017 assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Superintendent of Police, (SP), Sambhal, Yamuna Prasad, said, "Some work was being carried out under MGNREGA due to which some dispute happened. Two people have been shot dead. We will reach the spot of the incident to find more details."

According to his family members, Diwakar and his son had gone for a walk in the fields when the assailants came on a motorbike and after a brief altercation, shot them dead. They fled on foot, leaving their motorbike behind.

A large number of SP workers reached the village soon after the news of the double murder spread.

SP Yamuna Prasad who reached the spot that falls under Behjoi police station, soon after the murders, said that a manhunt has been launched for the assailants. He said that further investigations were underway and the bodies have been sent for post mortem.

Moradabad, Jun 17: Two children died after they accidentally got locked inside a car while playing in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad, the police said.

Four children, aged between 4 and 7 years, locked themselves inside the car while playing and were found unconscious soon after, the police added.

"All four children were found unconscious in a car and they were taken to the hospital. Two of them died and the other two are undergoing treatment at the hospital," said Amit Kumar Anand, superintendent of police (city) Moradabad.

The children were related to each other, the police said.

The man who owns the car said the children had locked themselves inside. "When we reached, the children were in an unconscious state. Two of the four children died. The incident occurred around 8 am."

Mumbai, May 10: A 32-year old man, running a bakery here has been arrested for alleged promotion of products using a tagline that said his firm does not employ Muslims, police said on Sunday.

The man, who is also selling his products online had allegedly said "made by Jains on orders, no Muslim staff" for promotion purposes in his WhatApp group.

A complaint was lodged against him saying the words depicted Muslims in a bad light and Mambalam police registered a case and arrested him, a release said adding a probe was on.

Recently, a man was arrested in Mumbai after he allegedly refused to collect groceries he had ordered online since the delivery person was a Muslim.
