GMU to offer training courses to housewives, women and families

Dubai, Dec 28: Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare at Gulf Medical University Ajman is one of its kind in the country, offering training courses in first aid and CPR to housewives, women and families at special discounted rates.

The university has established the Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (C.A.S.H) to integrate simulation as an educational tool to provide a state-of-the-art, safe learning environment that promotes professional development of students, faculty, health care providers and members of the community through high quality and internationally recognized education and training programs.

A one of its kind simulation center in the country, C.A.S.H simulates a “Hospital setting” spread over 20000 square feet area. It has mock OPDs, general ward, ICU, NICU, operation theater, radiology labs / suite, delivery suite (triage and first stage), diagnostic lab, and pharmacy. The center also offers training in communication skills, history taking skills, physical examination skills, interpretation skills (clinical and diagnostic), patient management skills, first aid skills, nursing skills and life support training (basic, advanced and pediatric) informed Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Director of the center and Dean College of Medicine.

“We will cultivate competent, confident and ethical practitioners, and extend the services of the Center in education and healthcare beyond our institution to regional healthcare practitioners and members of the community and establish C.A.S.H as a leading provider of quality health care, education and research in simulated settings,” adds Prof. Manda.

The center is tying-up with corporates and companies to offer joint training courses to benefit professionals as well as lay people. The promoters of the center, Thumbay Group will offer special rates for training as part of its corporate social responsibility activities. The center has trained more than 1000 healthcare professionals and lay people in a short span of time, added Prof. Manda.

The center is offering American Heart Association accredited Family & Friends First Aid CPR Course. AHA’s video-based, classroom Family & Friends® CPR Course teaches adult Hands-Only® CPR, adult AED use, child CPR and AED use, and infant CPR. It also teaches how to relieve choking in an adult, child or infant. The course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child for the first few minutes until professional help arrives. The program also covers child safety and preventing injuries. This course is for those involved in child care who have a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. This audience includes child care workers, teachers, foster care workers, camp counselors, youth organizations and coaches for children’s sports organizations. This course is also ideal for parents, grandparents, babysitters and guardians informed Prof. Manda.

Medical Simulation is the set-up, used for monitoring and review of a controlled medical event, designed to educate health care providers and broaden their experience in critical situations. Since simulations are completely staged and programmed as per the scenario, participants are able to make mistakes and learn from them without any risk to patients, and apply what they have learned in real life situations. The Center will offer regular training courses in Basic clinical skills, Basic surgical skills, Acute Care Medical Simulations, Advanced Airway Management, Teamwork and Communication skills, Crisis Resource Management (CRM), First Aid, BLS /ATLS and Standardized OSCEs, concluded Prof. Manda Venkatramana. The center is an accredited provider of American Heart Association programs.

Manama: Kannada Sangha Bahrain President Mr. Pradeep Shetty and Vice President of Bahrain's prestigious KHK HEROES Foundation Mohammed Mansoor on Monday, May 11, met The Second Secretary (Consular & CW) of the Embassy of India, Bahrain Mr. P. K. Chowdhury in the Indian Embassy. 

The situation, problems and relief of Indians and Kannadigas residing in Bahrain during the COVID 19 Pandemic was discussed in detail. The distribution of food (dry ration) kits, as well as those seeking repatriation, was also discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the repatriation of distressed Kannadigas, the Second Secretary said that though the number of Kannadigas who wish to return home is not much compared to the rest of the states, still Embassy is compiling all the information and will do the needful soon. 

Mr. Shetty and Mr. Mansoor told the Second Secretary that those who are in problem can contact them and they are ready to do their best.

Riyadh: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day of India, Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN on the 17th Jan 2020 at KING SAUD Universities King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. 

This is one of KWARs Prestigious Humanitarian EVENT every year, as we are indebted to serve the society for a Great Cause.

The campaign began at 08:30 am with a theme of Republic Day Celebrations and went on till 3:30 pm. Irrespective of Friday being a weekend and holiday people came in good numbers to donate Blood. The Hospital Staff, The Doctors and the Blood Bank Technicians and others at King Khalid University Hospital were more than happy to serve all those who have participated in this campaign.

KWAR Thanks all the Hospital Staff especially Mr. Salman Baqsh for his introduction of KWAR to Blood Bank and all the arrangements for this campaign, without his support this could not been done. Dr. Zafar Mahmoud for his wonderful support during the campaign and Mr. Abdullah Al Saman for his outstanding Hospitality throughout the campaign. KWAR also thanks all the donors who came all the way voluntarily for this Great Humanitarian Cause. As a token of gesture KWAR awarded Certificate of Appreciation to all the participants.

And KWAR would like to thank specially Mr. Nasir, Representative of Blood Helpline Karnataka, who encouraged many donors and made them to actively participate and donate blood for this noble cause.

KWAR’s core activities was on display on the screen, with most of the Committee members were present at the venue to serve the donors. KWAR thanks all the members, the Executive committee and all those who took their valuable time to organize this event successfully and thank all our well-wishers who supported us for the BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN. Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.
