Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport have seized gold worth Rs. 95 lakh this week. According to a press release from the Additional Commissioner of Customs, officials foiled three attempts to smuggle gold.
The first incident was on Sunday night, when gold weighing 199 gm and worth Rs. 60 lakh was recovered from a flight that had arrived from Singapore. The gold was wrapped in black insulating tapes and kept inside a cabin luggage that had been abandoned in the aircraft.
The second incident was when officials seized gold worth Rs. 28.43 lakh weighing 895 gm. The passenger, Kannada Kathlasleem Arif, 21, had arrived from Dubai. The gold was concealed in the form of foils in corrugated boxes used for wrapping toys. In the third incident, a passenger named Mohammed Talib Ahmed was found with 223 gm of gold in his rectum.
