Governor allowed BJP to prove majority, says Yeddyurappa after meeting him with Shobha

Bengaluru, May 15: Karnataka Governor has allowed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to prove majority in the Assembly, said party's chief ministerial candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa on Tuesday evening.

Talking to the reporters after meeting Governor Vajubhai Vala, Yeddyurappa said, "Just now we met Governor because we are single largest party, and that he allows us to prove majority in the Assembly".

Before meeting the Governor, Yeddyurappa claimed, "BJP will 100 per cent form government in Karnataka".

Union Minister Ananth Kumar, BJP MP Rajeev Chandra Shekhar and Shobha Karandlaje also accompanied Yeddyurappa.

Earlier, the BJP's chief ministerial candidate told media persons that the Governor gave him appointment at 5 p.m.

"We should be forming the government as we are the single largest party," Yeddyurappa said then.

At the time of filing this report, the BJP was leading on 106 seats, Congress on 77, Janata Dal (Secular) on 37, and others on two seats.

Karnataka Assembly has 224 seats, but the elections were held on 222 seats on May 12. A party or an alliance needs 113 seats to form the government in Karnataka.

Kasaragod, Jul 8: A 48-year-old man, who died on Tuesday, has tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

A native of nearby Mogral Puthur in Kasaragod district, Abdul Rahmn was running a business in Karnataka’s Hubli since long time.

He had recently returned to his hometown from Karnataka through Talapady border on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

Sources said, despite the man having acute fever, the authorities at the Talapady border not only took any action including informing the concerned, but allowed him to cross over the border in a vehicle.

He was rushed to Kasargod General Hospital soon after returning. Those who had accompanied him from Karnataka to Kerala are now under ouarantine.

Mangaluru, Feb 29: The state general assembly (SGA) of Karnataka unit of the Popular Front of India was held from February 27 to 29, 2020 at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district wherein new functionaries were elected for the next two years.

Yasir Hasan was elected president of the state unit of the organisation while Nasir Pasha was elected general secretary. Ayub K Agnady, Mohammed Sharief and Shahid Nasir were elected vice president, secretary and treasurer respectively.

The state executive committee members are: Abdul Khader, Abdul Majeed, Sharief Kodaje and Mohammed Tafseer.

The SAG commenced with the hoisting of flag by outgoing president Muhammad Saqib on February 27. The three day meeting analyzed the growth and activities of the PFI for the past two years. It was observed that the organization has received positive acceptance among the society.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar held a meeting through video conference on Thursday with private and government establishments involved in testing and treatment of COVID-19 in the state.

A total of 51,422 cases including 19,729 recoveries and 1,032 deaths were reported in the state till yesterday.

On the same day, K Sudhakar also paid a surprise visit to the Bengaluru's CV Raman Hospital and urged the administration to follow COVID-19 guidelines properly. He also took stock of the hospital's preparedness to fight the deadly virus.

"Surprise visits will continue. I will be in touch with every lab and get the right number of tests done on a daily basis," the minister said while speaking to the media.

He also urged the people who have recovered from coronavirus to donate their plasma to save other lives, adding that donors will receive a reward of Rs 5,000 as a token of appreciation.
