Bengaluru, Oct 21: The state government has decided to go ahead with Tipu Jayanthi celebrations on November 10 despite opposition from the Sangh Parivar.
Home Minister G?Parameshwara held a review meeting on Thursday to discuss security arrangements across the state in the run-up to the celebrations. The main event will be organised at Vidhana Soudha by the Department of Kannada and Culture. Tipu Jayanthi programmes will also be held at all taluk and district headquarters.
Mangaluru, June 6: Four persons were arrested by the Mulki police today in connection with the murder of Abdul Lateef, a 38-year-old businessman.
The arrested are: Mohammed Hasim (27), Nissar alias Riyaz (33), and Mohammed Razim (24), all residents of Mulki, and Aboobakar Siddique (27), a resident of Udupi.
The weapons and vehicles used for murder have been confiscated. Investigation is in progress to find out the motive behind the murder and the arrest of remaining accused.
Abdul Lateef, his father-in-law Muneer, latter’s son Ijaz and relative Imran were returning from Vijaya Bank at Mulki when a gang of nine miscreants waylaid their car and attacked with sharp weapons.
The gang comprised of Hakeem, Wafa, Asim, Siddique, Nissar, Bava, Farhan, Razeem and Siddiq. While four of them are arrested, police continued hunt to nab other accused.
Abdul Lateef breathed his last while being taken to hospital. Others are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Mangaluru, May 18: The coastal city of Mangaluru and other parts of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are receiving heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder.
The rain, which started in the wee hours, continued to lash for hours. It brought much relief from the sweltering heat.
Waterlogged roads in different parts of Mangaluru cause inconvenience to motorists. The clouds were so dark that the drivers were forced to switch on the headlights while driving vehicles in the morning.
The IMD has predicted heavy rain in the coastal Karnataka for next two days.
Lighting claims a life
Meanwhile, a youth died after lightning struck him at Paduyenagudde in Katpadi of Udupi district on Sunday late night. The deceased was identified as Bharat. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he failed to respond to the treatment.
