Bengaluru, Nov 27: Shobha Karandlaje, general secretary of Karnataka BJP has accused the state government of deputing home minister’s adviser and former cop Kempaiah to protect tainted minister.

“The government had deputed Kempaiah to "protect" Mines and Geology Minister Vinay Kulkarni by hushing up the murder case of Dharwad ZP member Yogesh Goudar,” Shobha said, while addressing a press conference here.

"What was the need for Kempaiah to speak to the investigation officer in the murder case, hold talks with the members of Goudar's family and local police officers in Dharwad," she questioned.

The Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP blamed the government for systematically trying to destroy evidence in the two cases. Kulkarni has rubbished the BJP’s charge of trying to cover up the murder case and termed the episode a political conspiracy against him.
