Govt to roll out Aadhaar Pay for cashless transactions

New Delhi, Jan 28: Government will soon roll out Aadhaar Pay service that will enable people to make and receive payments using their Aadhaar number and biometrics.

aadharpay"We are going to start Aadhaar Pay. With this people will not require to carry their phone for payments. They can visit any merchant, share their Aadhaar number and verify themselves using biometrics to pay and receive money," Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today.

As of now, 14 banks have come on board for Aadhaar Pay and the service will be launched soon, Prasad said told reporters. "We are in talks with other banks too. The service will be launched very soon," he informed.

Further, the Minister said, Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM), the common platform for making quick payments using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), has also been integrated with Aadhaar Enabled Payment System on Thursday.

Around 111 crore people in the country have Aadhaar numbers.

"There are 49 crore bank accounts linked to Aadhaar. Every month 2 crore accounts are being seeded with Aadhaar," Prasad said.

Mangaluru, Aug 7: A youth died on the spot in a ghastly road mishap on Netravati Bridge near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today evening.

Police sources said that the face of the youth, who was riding a motorbike, has been damaged beyond recognition. He died on the spot. 

More details about the mishap are yet to be known. A case has been registered at Mangaluru Traffic police station.

Mangalore, Feb 6: The first Rashtriya Lok Adalat of 2020 will get started from Feb 8, A district judge has announced, adding that it is being organised by Karnataka Law Services Authority and Dakshina Kannada Law Services Authority.

Speaking to media on Wednesday evening, Justice Sathyanarayana Acharya Kandlur said, "4,820 cases were resolved through Lok Adalat last year. 618 cases have been registered so far to be decided under the Lok Adalat."

Familial, civil and revenue cases of cheque dishonour, financial extortion, cases related to telephone, electricity, water, land encroachment and acquisition, motor vehicle cases, labour issues and maintenance expenses will be decided in the Lok Adalat.

Bengaluru, Jul 9: The M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium and the Bengaluru Palace in Karnataka will be converted into a COVID-19 care centre, informed the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Thursday.

The Bangalore International Exhibition Centre was also recently converted into a COVID-19 care facility by the state government amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

R Ashoka, the state's COVID management in charge said, "People of Bangalore need not panic. All necessary equipment and preparation are being arranged by the state. We have over 600 ambulances ready to take care of COVID patients."

As per the data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka now has a total of 28,877 COVID-19 cases, including 16,531 active cases and 11,876 recoveries.

470 people have died of the infectious virus in the state so far.
