GPL fever grips Dubai; Master Blaster, Bollywood stars to witness final match

Dubai, Sep 6: The ICC Global Cricket Academy ground in Dubai Sports City is all set to host the Gulf Premier League-2015, one of the biggest cricket extravaganza of United Arab Emirates.

The much awaited tournament is scheduled to be held on October 15 and 16. The highlight of the tournament is the presence of star cricketer of all times, Bharath Ratna Sachin Tendulkar during finale.

Bollywood stars Sunil Shetty and Anushka Shetty will also are expected to take part in the event.

The event is powered by Kushi Group, Dubai, in association with Blue & Black Events while Al Muzain Group, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the Title Sponsor.

At a press meet held at Majlis of Shaikh Muhammed Sharif, Chairman of Khushi Group, Sadiq Kaup, the President of GPL 2015 announced that for the first time in the history of hard tennis ball cricket format, a huge sum of prize money and attractive gifts will be awarded to the winning teams and individual players.

As many as eight top teams—four from UAE, two from Saudi Arabia and one each from Kuwait and Qatar—will be participating in the tournament which will be held as per ICC rules and regulations.

The 10 over league matches will be played on October 15 and 15 over semi finals and 20 over finals will be played on October 16 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

As it's a high voltage tournament star cricket players from various cricket playing countries are also expected in teams as each team is allowed to include four foreign players.

“Apart from cricket matches, unlimited entertainment programs will be staged as we are accepting around 8000 cricket lovers from across GCC,” said Mr Kaup, adding that the GPL is set to be a bench mark event in the history of hard tennis ball cricket.

He also requested all the cricket fans of GCC to mark their calendars to be part of the event. GPL members Canute Kelarai, Shabir, Imran, Media adviser Balaji Narayan were present during the press meet.

Jul 6: At least 8 lakh Indians may be forced to leave Kuwait as the country's legal and legislative committee has approved a draft expat quota Bill, reported.

The Bill, which states that Indians should not exceed 15 percent of the population, was determined as constitutional by the National Assembly, local media reported.

It will soon be transferred to the respective committee so that a comprehensive plan is created.

Expats account for 30 lakh of Kuwait's 43 lakh population. Indian community constitutes the largest expat community in Kuwait, totalling 14.5 lakh.

The move comes as the number of Covid-19 cases has spiked in the country, with 49,000 cases being reported so far.

These messages may contain useless, incorrect or even harmful information and advice, which can hamper the public health response and add to social disorder and division.

Asking people to avoid fake news on COVID-19, Hemant Nimbalkar IPS, IGP and Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration), shared a photo on his Twitter page and wrote, “One Mask For Ear Too"

Bengaluru, May 16: At least 23 new COVID-19 positive cases have emerged in the past 19 hours, raising Karnataka''s tally to 1,079, a health official said on Saturday.

"New cases reported from Friday 5 p.m. to Saturday noon are 23," said the official.

Among the 1,079 cases, 548 are active and isolated in designated hospitals across the state, 494 patients got discharged and 36 died of the virus.

In the past 19 hours, cases spiked in Benglaluru Urban, the place hosting the highest number of coronavirus cases in the state.

Of the new cases, Bengaluru Urban reported 14 cases, followed by 3 in Hassan and Mandya, Ballari, Bagalkote, Davangere, Dharwad and Udupi, 1 each.

All the 14 cases, men, from Bengaluru Urban were secondary contacts of positive case 653.

All Hassan, Dharwad and Bagalkote cases had a history of inter-state travel to Mumbai, Maharashtra, India''s largest sufferer of Covid.

A 46-year-old man from Ballari had a travel history to Ahmedabad in Gujarat, another major COVID-19 hotspot state in India.

A 40-year-old man from Mandya had inter-district travel history to Kolar and Bengaluru.

A 1-year-old infant girl from Udupi had international travel history to Dubai.

Among the new cases, 15 are contacts of earlier cases.

Of the all cases, 20 are men and three women.

Only four of the 23 cases are above 50 and 18 below 40.

Of the 1,079 cases, 12 per cent patients were senior citizens, 66 per cent men and 34 per cent women with a discharge rate of 44 per cent.
