Mangaluru, Oct 1: Mangaluru Flower city, an initiative from young leaders of the coastal city was inaugurated on Sunday, October 1. This Trust has a noble intention of beautification of the city through green initiatives. Mother Nature has gifted the mankind everything needed for their sustenance, but man has destroyed every green for his selfish motives which in turn will harm the entire living creatures of the earth.
Inaugural function was held at ITI college, Kadri Hills. Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru North MLA Mohuddin Bawa, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Corporator Roopa Bangera, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, CREDAI president Mehtha graced the occasion by planting saplings.
This project of beautification of the roads by planting flowering trees was the result of the dreams of young businessman, Shawaz from Expertise Industries who are the manufacturer of Kedium Plywoods.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shawaz, Secretary Mangaluru Flower City, explained the roadmap of this project. He said, in the phase-1, around 2000 saplings will be planted in both the sides of the airport road starting from KPT. Phase 2 and phase 3 will cover the same activity in the National highway starting from Nanthoor to Kottara Chowki. He said the response from the public is awesome and many doctors, builders, Govt officers, Businessman are supporting the team by sponsoring trees in the magnitude of 10 to 2000.
Former mayor Mahabala Marla, President of Mangaluru Flower City, explained the model applied in this initiative. He said Flower city team acts as moderator and it will mobilize funds for the projects through various sponsors, assign the maintenance to a separate team who will take care of planting the trees, watering it, manuring it till it grows and maintains it. For each tree, total expenses comes to Rs 1100 for 2 years. He said anyone who is interested can join hands in this global initiative by sponsoring the trees.
Clifford Lobo, Forest officer, being the advisor and member of the trust has guided the team in choosing the right trees and maintaining it.
On the occasion, Green Initiative certificate were awarded to the main sponsors, Saleem, Mobile Care, Mehtha, Credai Mangaluru, Shawaz Kedium Plywoods. Other trustee members present were Mansoor Azad, Govindaprasad, Dawood, Laxman Kunder, Sheikh Moidin K.M.
