GST rates reduced on household items, deadline for filing GSTR 1 extended to Oct 10

Hyderabad, Sep 10: In a major relief to the common man as promised, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday announced that the Goods and Service Tax Council (GST) reduced tax levied on several household items.

The GST council also extended the deadline for filing GSTR 1 for July to October 10.

The Finance Minister Jaitley also announced there would be no change in tax for small cars, 13-seater vehicles and hybrid cars.

"There will be no additional burden on small car buyers," Jaitley said after the 21st meeting of the GST Council here.

While the total tax in midsize cars will increase from 43% to 45% and large cars will be raised to 48% from 43%.

On SUVs, total tax would now be 50% instead of 43%.

The GST council also reduced taxes on dried tamarind, dhoop agarbatti, raincoats, custard powder, rubber bands. Apart from this , tax on idly and dosa batter is also reduced.

Khadi fabric sold only through KVIC stores will be tax-exempted, said the finance minister.

The Council also amended the framework for branded packaged food products.

The finance minister said that the overall GST collection has been robust so far with more than 70% of the having filed their return.

"Figure of approx Rs.95.000 cr (tax collection) for July. Some spill over of VAT collection of June paid in July will also be added. We reviewed the functioning of GST Network which on 2 or 3 occasions got overloaded. These are transient challenges and has been rectified," Jaitley said.

The GST council has also decided to form an inter-ministerial committee to continuously interact with GST Network to ensure smooth transformation.

The Center on September 4 extended the deadline for filing GSTR 1 for July to September 10 after the GST portal stopped working.

Deadlines for filing GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 were also subsequently extended to September 25 and September 30, respectively.

New Delhi, Apr 26: Medical services at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri area have been closed and the hospital is being sanitised after 44 staff members including doctors were tested positive for COVID-19, Delhi Health Department said on Saturday.

"Total 44 staff members including doctors at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri area of Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19. Test reports of other staff members are awaited. Hospital's medical services have been closed and the hospital is being sanitized," Delhi Health Department said.

Earlier today, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain informed that there are 2,625 coronavirus cases in Delhi, out of which 111 were reported yesterday.

The total number of active cases in the national capital stands at 1,518 while 869 people have recovered so far, the minister further informed. There have been 54 deaths in the national capital, as per the Union Health Ministry.

A total of 26,496 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India, including 19,868 active cases, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.

824 people have lost their lives due to the infection in the country.

Lucknow, Jul 2: Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti Thursday appeared in person before a special court here conducting trial in the 1992 Babri mosque demolition case.      

The special CBI court is currently recording the statements of 32 accused under CrPC section 313 (court's power to examine the accused), a stage in the trial that follows the examination of prosecution witnesses.

The 61-year-old saffron clad BJP leader is the 19th accused to depose before the court in the over 27-year-old case. Thirteen other alleged accused, including former deputy prime minister LK Advani and senior BJP leaders MM Joshi and Kalyan Singh are yet to be examined at this stage. Their lawyers have indicated to the CBI court that they prefer to appear through video conferencing. 

The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished in December 1992 by 'kar sevaks' who claimed that an ancient Ram temple had stood on the same site. The CBI court is conducting day-to-day hearings to complete the trial by August 31, as directed by the Supreme Court.

Kashmir, Jun 14: An Army personnel was killed and two others were injured as Pakistani troops opened fire and shelled areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

This is the third fatality in the Pakistani firing and shelling on forward posts and villages in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri this month.

The officials said the latest firing and shelling from across the border took place in Shahpur-Kerni sector on Saturday night, drawing strong retaliation by the Indian Army.

Three Indian Army personnel were injured in the Pakistani firing and were immediately evacuated to hospital, where one of them succumbed to injuries, the officials said.

They said the casualties suffered by the Pakistani Army in the retaliatory action were not known immediately.

On June 4, havaldar P Mathiazhagan fell to Pakistani firing in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, while on June 10, Naik Gurcharan Singh lost his life in a similar incident in Rajouri sector.
