HC grants anticipatory bail to HDK in illegal mining case

Bengaluru, Aug 10: The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in a case registered against him by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Lokayukta for alleged misuse of his office to show a favour to a mining company when he was the Chief Minister.

Justice Rathnakala passed the order while allowing Mr. Kumaraswamy’s petition.

The court, however, directed Mr. Kumaraswamy to mark his attendance with the SIT every alternative Monday for the next six months or till the filing of the final report in the case. The court also said that the SIT should release him on bail in the event of his arrest, on production of a bond for ₹5 lakh and two sureties for the like sums.

The allegations against Mr. Kumaraswamy is that he had abused his powers in grant of mining permission to Janthakal Enterprises besides permitting it to lift an old stock of 1 lakh tonnes of iron ore. Also, it was alleged that Mr. Kumaraswamy had allotted land of around 80 acres to Vishwabarathi House Building Cooperative Society in violation of norms and the society later allotted sites to some of his family members. The trial court, which had granted interim anticipatory bail, had subsequently rejected his plea for anticipatory bail. Later the High Court had passed an interim order asking the SIT not to arrest him until his petition for anticipatory bail is decided by the court.

Kasaragod, Mar 31: The latest incidents of critically-ill patients dying due to lack of medical attention has been a cause of concern for the people here who had largely been depended on hospitals in Mangalore.

However the lock down has hindered follow-up treatment for these critically ill as the Karnataka authorities has been steadfast in restricting entry into their land.

The people of Kasaragod has been largely depended on the medical facilities in Mangalore for critical illness care. It was the gross inadequacies in critical healthcare in the district besides rather-easy proximity to nearby and bigger town that many residing on the north-east of the district have since long been making it to Mangalore for treatment of critical illness like cancer, dialysis and the alike.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: The Karnataka government on Saturday ordered 2 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits from DHB Global and 1 lakh from other major pharmaceuticals, for the healthcare warriors treating coronavirus patients.

According to the State Health Department, these PPEs have 10 components as per global standards like a face mask to prevent healthcare professional from any liquid sprays, goggles for additional safety, N95 masks for protection of nasal and mouth areas, surgical masks, nitrile gloves, coverall suit, shoe cover, waste disposable bag, plastic apron, and protective gear.

Each of the products should have the relevant certificate from the Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) or equivalent certification.

Mangaluru, July 30: Under the KKMA Dream House (Home for Homeless) project, the Karnataka Branch of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association built two new houses at Nelyadi in Puttur taluk (house # 12 & 13) and handed over the keys on 29th July 2020 to the two widows as an Eid al-Adha gift for them.

Mr. S.M. Basha, president of Sea Food Buyers Association, Mangaluru, Mr. Sajid A.K, president of Highland Islamic Forum (HIF), Mangaluru, Mr. S.M. Farooq, president of KKMA Karnataka State Committee and Mr. Abubakker Thumbay, Vice President of Karnataka Branch Religious Affairs graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

Mr. S.M. Basha along with other dignitaries handed over the House # 12 key to a widow with three daughters at Bail house in Nelyadi and Mr. Sajid A.K. handed over the House # 13 key to another widow with two children at Alampadi in Nelyadi. 

Ustaad Haneef Saqafi, Qateeb Badriya Juma Masjid Nelyadi, Advocate Ismail, Ex-President and present committee member, Abdul Qader, Secretary of Jamaat, Taj Umar, Treasurer of Jamath, City Abbu, Ex-President of Jamath were present.  Ustaad Haneef Saqafi did the dua prayers. Mr. Abdul Rehman,  Contractor of the two houses was also present.

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association being a leading Social Service Organization is an Extrordinary organization of ordinary people has successfully implemented several social development projects in Kerala and Karnataka states. KKMA Karnataka branch has previously handed over 11 houses for homeless at different places in Dakshina Kannada District.
