HDK directs deputy commissioners to tackle rain emergencies

Mysuru, Aug 11: Expressing concern over recurrence of floods in parts of Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has directed the respective deputy commissioners to address the problems that arise out of the rain and heavy discharge of water from the dams.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the chief minister said, that there is no dearth of funds for taking up relief works in the rain-affected areas in the state. “The government has directed the deputy commissioners to maintain a minimum of Rs 5 crore in their account for addressing rain woes," he said.

The government has already released Rs 20 crore of RS 100 crore announced in the first phase for Kodagu district, he said and added that the administration would take necessary measures to tackle rain-related emergencies without violating the model code of conduct, which is in force in view of ULB polls.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday has identified eight districts from Karnataka as COVID-19 hotspots.

Districts that have reported a higher number of cases are classified as hotspots, the districts where cases have been reported as non-hotspots, and green zones where no cases have been reported.

Bangalore Urban, Mysuru, Belagavi, Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Bagalokote and Dharwad have been identified as Covid-19 hotspots by Union Health Ministry, tweeted the state health department on Wednesday.

Bengaluru, Feb 20: The poultry industry is facing losses amid rumours of the discovery of a chicken infected with coronavirus in Bengaluru.

DK Kantharaju, president, Karnataka Cooperative Poultry Federation said, "Karnataka is facing losses of Rs 60 to 65 crores. The consumption percentage has also decreased by 30-35 per cent".

Atiq, a meat seller, said, "Because of coronavirus people are scared. But I want to say that chicken is safe to consume here. All this fear is caused due to fake news on social media."

Another person Abdul Hafeez said, "Chicken and coronavirus are not related. People are scared because of what is being spread on social media. The business has definitely gone down due to fear of coronavirus."

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A video of a woman rescuing a dog from a well in Mangaluru has gone viral on social media. The dog fell inside the well accidentally and the woman rushed to the spot to rescue it. The two minute seven second video has been shared on Twitter by a user, Mauna, and has ever since been viewed over 15,000 times.

The woman climbed down the well as other people attached a rope to her body during the rescue mission. Another rope was then thrown to her and she tied it around the dog after which it was pulled outside. The woman, thereafter, climbed outside the well with much difficulty.

"Bless the lady who saved the Dog," the user captioned the post.
