HDK directs deputy commissioners to tackle rain emergencies

Mysuru, Aug 11: Expressing concern over recurrence of floods in parts of Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has directed the respective deputy commissioners to address the problems that arise out of the rain and heavy discharge of water from the dams.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the chief minister said, that there is no dearth of funds for taking up relief works in the rain-affected areas in the state. “The government has directed the deputy commissioners to maintain a minimum of Rs 5 crore in their account for addressing rain woes," he said.

The government has already released Rs 20 crore of RS 100 crore announced in the first phase for Kodagu district, he said and added that the administration would take necessary measures to tackle rain-related emergencies without violating the model code of conduct, which is in force in view of ULB polls.

Bengaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that portfolios for the 10 new ministers who sworn in on Thursday will be allocated by February 8.

Speaking to media persons, he said that he will go to Delhi in the coming days and the date of his visit will be finalised soon.

He is expected to meet the high command again to finalise the list of BJP MLAs for three berths in the Cabinet.

Mangaluru, July 23: Lavanya Ballal, national co-coordinator for social media department of Indian National Congress, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of destroying the nation by misleading the youth.

In an interview with a regional Kannada news paper, the Dakshina Kannada based activist, lamented that instead of using social media for the welfare of the nation, BJP leaders used it to spread lies for their political gains. 

On one hand BJP fooled people through false promises and colourful dialogues, while on the other hand it misled crores of youth by spreading fake news, twisted facts and false information, she said.

Ms Ballal went on to accuse BJP of following the footsteps of the British. “BJP is following all the methods employed by the British invaders to divide the people of India and make them hate each other,” she said.

She said that Congress always used the social media for the benefit of the country. If the new generation realises this fact, the country will once again turn its direction towards development, she asserted.

Bhopal, Mar 12: Madhya Pradesh Congress on Thursday alleged that two of its ministers who had gone to Bengaluru to meet the rebel party legislators were assaulted.

"Two of our ministers Jitu Patwari and Lakhan Singh had gone to Bengaluru. They were assaulted, we have info that our ministers have been arrested," Madhya Pradesh Congress leader said during a press conference.

Congress further warned that if the police don't take action, the party will take it to the court.

Some of the rebel MLAs had said in a video on Wednesday that they were in Bengaluru out of their own will.

The rebel MLAs have been staying in Bengaluru over the past few days.
