HDK directs deputy commissioners to tackle rain emergencies

Mysuru, Aug 11: Expressing concern over recurrence of floods in parts of Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has directed the respective deputy commissioners to address the problems that arise out of the rain and heavy discharge of water from the dams.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the chief minister said, that there is no dearth of funds for taking up relief works in the rain-affected areas in the state. “The government has directed the deputy commissioners to maintain a minimum of Rs 5 crore in their account for addressing rain woes," he said.

The government has already released Rs 20 crore of RS 100 crore announced in the first phase for Kodagu district, he said and added that the administration would take necessary measures to tackle rain-related emergencies without violating the model code of conduct, which is in force in view of ULB polls.

Bengaluru, May 5: Karnataka Education Minister, S Suresh Kumar on Monday announced that the SSLC exams will be held as soon as possible, the officials have been asked to be prepared.

The guidelines have been given by the Primary Education Minister to all Deputy Directors of Education departments.

"Sanitisers, masks, screening, and all guidelines will be followed at exam halls," said Kumar in a statement.

Meanwhile, Karnataka has reported 651 COVID-19 positive cases so far, said State Health Department said on Monday.

Tumakuru, Jun 30: As many as 43 sheep were quarantined after a shepherd tested positive for novel coronavirus at Godekere Gollarahatti in Tumakuru district. 

J C Madhuswamy, district in-charge minister, has instructed the district administration and the Animal Husbandry department to subject the sheep to Covid-19 tests.

The move followed after five sheep found dead in mysterious circumstances at the village. All 43 sheep of the infected person have been isolated from the herd and kept at a place in Jakkanahalli.

"There is no evidence that the sheep can contract Covid-19 and transmit the virus to the people. But since the virus has many strains and keep changing its genetic make-up, draw throat swab samples of the sheep and send the same to Covid-19 lab. Till the report comes, keep the livestock in isolation," Madhuswamy told the officials.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: A total of 4,764 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours.

Out of the new cases, 2,050 cases were reported in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The total number of active cases stands at 47,069, said the state Health Department.

Death toll rises to 1,519 in the state.
