HDK directs deputy commissioners to tackle rain emergencies

Mysuru, Aug 11: Expressing concern over recurrence of floods in parts of Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has directed the respective deputy commissioners to address the problems that arise out of the rain and heavy discharge of water from the dams.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the chief minister said, that there is no dearth of funds for taking up relief works in the rain-affected areas in the state. “The government has directed the deputy commissioners to maintain a minimum of Rs 5 crore in their account for addressing rain woes," he said.

The government has already released Rs 20 crore of RS 100 crore announced in the first phase for Kodagu district, he said and added that the administration would take necessary measures to tackle rain-related emergencies without violating the model code of conduct, which is in force in view of ULB polls.

Bengaluru, Jan 1: Karnatak Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol has said that the state government wrote to the Centre to fix the technical glitches in FASTag system.

"We have brought this issue to the notice of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari," he told reporters on Tuesday.

In response to the flood relief by the state government, Karjol said that the approximate cost of roads damaged in the floods was Rs 7000 crore and the government would take up the repair works soon.

Hubballi, Jan 11: Karnataka Industries Minister Jagadeesh Shatter's mother Basvennamma Shivappa Shetter passed away here on Friday evening.

She was 86. She is survived by three sons and a daughter.

The final rituals was held on Saturday, family sources said.

Tumakuru, Mar 1: A leopard killed 30-month-old kid when she was playing outside her home in Baichnehalli village in Hebbur Hobli in Tumakuru district, police said on Sunday.

Police said that the deceased has been identified as Chandana. The incident happened on Saturday evening.

Forest and police officials visited the spot. A case has been registered in this connection.

Karnataka Minister for Forest Ananda Singh issued a shoot at sight order for the leopard which killed a 30-month-old boy while playing in front of his house on Sunday.

Speaking to newsmen after visiting the Bichenahalli where the kid was killed, he said that the operation will begin on Monday. The kid was dragged by the leopard and killed Saturday night.

Earlier also the same leopard had killed five-year-old child in the district, he added.
