Bengaluru, Sept 19: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy has said that he will be out of action for the next fortnight owing to health complications.

Kumaraswamy, who said that he will be undergoing a valve replacement surgery on September 23, appealed to his supporters and party workers not to get anxious, as it was a routine procedure.

The JD(S) leader who had undergone heart surgery in December 2007, was scheduled for a valve replacement in the next two years.

‘Toll on health’

“However, for the last seven to eight months, I have been coughing incessantly, and this has taken a toll on my heart. The problem aggravated when I was travelling to Israel recently. I couldn’t walk steadily in the Mumbai airport, nor could I climb the stairs in Israel. I consulted some doctors there and they said I needed to undergo surgery immediately, but I put it off,” Kumaraswamy said.

Once in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy underwent a series of tests and investigations. He is scheduled to be admitted to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research hospital in the next couple of days.

When contacted, noted cardiologist and director of Jayadeva, Dr C N Manjunath, said that a team of four to five experts including pulmonologists and cardiologists will first screen Kumaraswamy to determine whether the problem is respiratory or cardiac or interconnected.

“If the degree of the valve problem is significant, then we will go for a replacement surgery,” he added.

Tumakuru, Feb 5: Former Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde has questioned the integrity of the B S Yediyurappa led BJP government as it has not taken an action to abolish the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) to re-establish the Lokayukta in Karnataka.

Speaking after felicitating the retired scientist of NASA Gopal Iyengar at the Karnataka Public School at Kadaba in Gubbi taluk he reminded that the BJP had promised to establish the Lokayukta.

"No party will like to strengthen the Lokayukta and now BSY is also tightlipped and even put an end by appreciating that ACB has been doing a good job", he regretted.

In fact, the Lokayakuta had the power to prosecute even the top brass of officials and now the ACB cannot without the government's permission, he clarified.

He denied any remarks on the CAA and NRC but observed that the youths of the country have been misguided by the politicians as they lost their focus on education by involving in protest rallies.

"I suggest they to straight away take a political plunge instead of getting misused at the hands of the politicians with selfish motives", he said.

Mangaluru, May 9: A team of doctors at Mangaluru's Mangala Hospital has developed a 'bubble helmet' that will provide an alternative to patients who need an oxygen mask.

The team was led by Dr Ganapathi, medical director of Mangala Hospital and Mangala Kidney Foundation in the city.

The bubble helmet, which has a special collar attached to it, helps the patients with breathing issues, and to avoid using ventilator facility.

Dr Ganapathi said, "When a patient needs intubation we will be providing them oxygen bubble helmets and we will first give it a trial before we intubate a patient."

"I have converted an ordinary snorkelling mask into a ventilator assist device, this mask can be used as a personal protection device by connecting it to a bacterial viral filter," he added.

Dr Ganapathi said that the connector has been made available in India and a snorkelling mask can be easily converted into a ventilator assist device. And it will make the management of coronavirus patients easy.
