HDK urges EC to link Aadhaar to voters' ID

Bengaluru, Dec 12: JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy on Monday urged the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to link Aadhaar numbers to voters' IDs to ensure free and fair polling during the 2018 Assembly elections.

In his letter to the CEO on Monday, Kumaraswamy has said that if Aadhaar numbers are linked to the voter's ID, the Election Commission of India could weed out several problems such as multiple enrollment (in both Assembly and Parliament polls) by the same voter.

Citing that several complaints have been lodged with the Election Commission of India pertaining to multiple enrollments by voters, he has sought the CEO to consider his appeal seriously.

Bengaluru, Jul 9: The M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium and the Bengaluru Palace in Karnataka will be converted into a COVID-19 care centre, informed the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Thursday.

The Bangalore International Exhibition Centre was also recently converted into a COVID-19 care facility by the state government amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

R Ashoka, the state's COVID management in charge said, "People of Bangalore need not panic. All necessary equipment and preparation are being arranged by the state. We have over 600 ambulances ready to take care of COVID patients."

As per the data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka now has a total of 28,877 COVID-19 cases, including 16,531 active cases and 11,876 recoveries.

470 people have died of the infectious virus in the state so far.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: A fire incident was reported inside the premises of the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) on Wednesday morning.

According to official sources, the fire was noticed at the Forge and Foundry division in the HAL complex and as many as eight fire tenders are engaged in fighting the mishap.

According to initial reports, the fire was noticed at a stockyard, where magnesium stockpile caught fire.

The fire fighters had cordoned off the entire area in the vicinity and the fire has been contained.

No casualties had been reported, due to the incident, the sources added.

Bengaluru, Mar 19: In the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has reported huge revenue losses in March.

According to official data, the cumulative revenue loss in all services from March 1 till March 18 has amounted to around Rs 8,58,86,462 crores.

This includes cumulative revenue loss of Rs 5,33,82,456 in premium services, and cumulative revenue loss of Rs 3,25,04,006 in non-premium services.

The highest reported revenue loss in all services was reported on March 18, which amounted to Rs 1,90,25,183.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state have reached 15, according to the Karnataka Health Minister.

A total of 169 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday.
