Heavy rains damage 10 houses in Kasaragod

Kasargod, Jun 13: The incessant rains that has been lashing since the onset of monsoon wrecked havoc damaging at least 10 houses across the district, crippling normal life.

According to official sources, the district received 145.30 mm rains over the last 24 hours ending 8 a.m. on Monday with a cumulative tally touching to 450.20 mm.

The rains and winds damaged four houses – two in Kumbadaje village and one each in Adukkathbayal and Bandadukka in Kasaragod taluk.

While six houses suffered partial damages in Hosdurg taluk where the walls around the pond attached to the Udayamangalam Maha Vishnu temple at Uduma caved in partially. A coconut tree fell down over a tile-roofed house at Pullur near Kanhangad.

Caving in of well

The rains resulted in caving in of a well each at Bara in Uduma and Hosabettu in Manjeshwaram grama panchayats, they said. No loss of life and property were reportedw. The rains also resulted in partial damage to a house at Thayannur locality in Vellarikundu taluk.

Mussodi beach near Manjeshwaram faced imminent threat of sea erosion as senior officials visited the spot to assess the situation and to decide on evacuating affected residents to safety.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Popular Kannada comedy actor Prakash, popularly known as Bullet Prakash in the film industry, died due to multi-organ failure at a private hospital in the City on Monday.

He was 44.

He is survived by wife, one son and a daughter.

Kalaburagi, Jul 2: Hoteliers in Kalaburagi have claimed that their business is hit due to night curfew timings in the state.

The night curfew in the state has been imposed from 8 pm to 5 am.

Speaking to news agency, Sudarshan, a hotelier said, "Peak business hour is 7-10 pm but now we close by 8 pm. There is almost no business. We are unable to pay our workers. The government should think about it".

"We haven't received any benefit from the government so far. If we are in trouble how will we help our workers? Relaxation should be given," he added.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown on Sundays till August 2.

So far, Karnataka has reported 15,242 COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mandya, Apr 3: Following the lock down in the country, people habit ventured into Liquor bottles worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen at two places in the district.

Miscreants targeted a wine store at Chikka Mandya on the outskirts of the town in the early hours and also made away with the stock from a wine store near Hadly Circle in Malavalli town late night on Thursday. The incidents came to light on Friday.

A window was broken open at Chikka Mandya store and a wall was drilled at Malavalli store to take away the cartons, the police said.
