Mangaluru, Jul 15: U T Khader, minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs has urged Sri Rajashekharananda Swami of Vajradehi Mutt to share with the police whatever 'explosive' information the seer has with regard to murder of RSS worker Sharath Madivala.

Swami, who is the honorary president of Hindu Rakshana Samiti, had claimed on Friday that he has an 'explosive' lead in the Sharath's murder. The seer also stated that he would reveal the information only to National Investigation Agency (NIA). Reacting to Swami's statement, Khader said on Saturday that suppressing any kind of information related to a crime is an offence.

"Suppression of facts and hiding truth related to a crime is also an offence under law. It also comes under IPC. Those, who have information related to a crime should pass on the same to the police. It shows that they don't trust the police. Action may be initiated against police if they do not act upon such information," Khader said.

Lashing out at BJP leaders, Khader said when the people want to see peace in society and punish the accused in communal incidents, they (BJP) are behind vote-bank politics. On statements of Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda and other BJP leaders that the BJP will field booth-level workers against Khader and Ramanath Rai, the minister said he welcomes the decision.

"I am very happy that they are fielding booth-level party workers against us in Bantwal and Ullal (Mangaluru) constituencies. BJP leaders' decision will save their face because they will not be able to secure the number of votes their party workers will bag against us. We are contesting elections in our constituencies projecting our achievements with the support of party workers and members of all communities," Khader said.

Expressing ire over BJP leaders' statements over Sharath's murder, Khader said people in the district are united and working together without any bias. "Those who do not know the district well are making such statements. Their statements will only add fuel to fire. Those, who want to see harmony in the district, are united," Khader said appealing to people to forget differences and join hands for maintaining harmony.

DYFI Dakshina Kannada district secretary Santhosh Bajal said that Rajashekharananda Swami should immediately inform the police if he has any such 'explosive' information related to the murder of RSS worker Sharath Madivala. "He should cooperate with the investigation agency by providing information and thereby help in arresting the killers of Sharath Madivala. In case, Swami does not share information with the investigation team, the police should arrest and take action against him," Bajal said.

Udupi, Jun 5: Senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlje accused members of Tablighi Jamaat of spreading Coronavirus, particularly in slums, in Bengaluru.

Speaking to newsmen here Friday night, she said that the members had intentionally spread the virus in Siddique Layout and Padarayanapura. Members had hatched a conspiracy to destroy the country. She would raise the issue with the central government.

She said that New Delhi and Maharashtra were responsible for rising Covid-19 cases in the country. Highlighting the programmes, introduced by Modi-led NDA government for the past six years, she blamed Covid-19 for the collapse of the economy. But for Covid-19 Modi government at the Centre would have been a leader in the world,” she added.

She said 13,541 people, stranded in other States and foreign countries, had returned to Udupi. “We have sufficient beds in the district to tackle the situation. But if more people decide to travel to Udupi, arranging quarantine facilities would be a huge challenge,” she added.

Bengaluru, Jun 23: In an attempt to avoid exploitation of patients affected with coronavirus, the Karnataka government on Tuesday announced fixing charges that could be collected from patients by the private hospitals for treatment in the State.

There are now two sets of rates for patients--those who are referred by public health facilities and those who approach private hospitals directly.

According to the notification issued by State Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar on Tuesday, 50 per cent of the total beds in private hospitals having facilities to treat Covid-19 patients shall be reserved for the treatment of patients referred by public health authorities.

This will include the high-dependency unit and ICU (intensive care unit) beds both with and without ventilators. The hospitals may utilise the remaining Covid beds for admitting Covid-19 patients privately.

Abu Dhabi-based NMC Healthcare has reportedly received bids to sell its distribution unit and will soon be selling it to different parties.

The development comes over three months after NMC Healthcare’s founder and then-chairman B R Shetty stepped down amid allegations of massive fraud.

The company, which recently laid off hundreds of workers, is offloading stake in the subsidiary as it is considered non-core and requires substantially high working capital to run the operations. In addition, this stake sale will help the company pay off some of its debt

"There are parties who have strong interest in the distribution business. NMC will be offloading the unit soon and that also to different parties," a source said.

"The company is in the process of exploring options for NMC Trading, the group's distribution business, which it has determined to be non-core and requiring substantial levels of working capital. The process should not materially adversely impact distributors' activities, nor NMC Trading's customers," an NMC Healthcare spokeswoman said.

The UK-court has appointed Alvarez & Marsal as administrator to oversee the operations of the debt-ridden hospital operator. The healthcare firm has been caught in a whirlpool of $6.6 billion debt while its senior former high management team is under investigation for financial irregularities.

The UAE Central Bank has direct local banks to freeze all bank accounts of NMC founder BR Shetty and his family members as well as accounts of those companies where he has a stake. The Central Bank move is subsequent to a criminal complaint filed by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, which has the largest exposure to NMC Healthcare, amounting Dh3 billion.

As the company faces financial difficulties, Reuters reported that NMC Health delayed May staff salaries and now expects to complete making payments by the first week of June.

The spokeswoman said: "The company has been in regular dialogue with its creditor constituencies through various creditor committees, including the direct bank lenders to its NMC Trading businesses."
