High Court stays sanction given to prosecute Kalladka Bhat in hate speech case

Mangaluru, Jul 14: In what can be termed as a legal victory for RSS veteran Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka, the Karnataka High Court of Karnataka on Thursday stayed the sanction granted by the State government for prosecuting him in a case of delivering a communally provocative speech in 2015.

bhatkalladkaThe High Court also stayed the summons issued to him by a local court in Puttur which had taken cognisance of offence based on a charge sheet. Justice Aravind Kumar passed the interim order on a petition filed by Dr Bhat.

Puttur Town police had registered a case on January 23, 20015 against the petitioner based on a complaint given by a member of Popular Front of India’s (PFI) district committee.

The Puttur court had issued summons to him on June 24, 2017 based on the charge sheet filed by the police after the State government on March 18, 2017 granted sanction for prosecuting him based on a request made by the police on March 8, 2017.

Terming the allegations as false, it has been claimed in the petition that the Forensic Sciences Laboratory’s report given in January 2016 had stated that the “electronic evidence collected by the police during the course of the investigation is not original and the same is tampered and edited one ...”

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A 22-year-old man from Bhatkal who had returned from Dubai on March 19 has tested positive for coronavirus.

Sindhu B Rupesh, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada confrimed this today.

The youth, after landing at Mangaluru International Airport had got admitted to Govt Wenlock Hospital.

The total number of coronavirus positive patients in India rose to 342 on Sunday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

A total of 16,999 samples from 16,109 individuals have been tested for COVID-19 as of 10:00 am on March 22, as per ICMR data.

India reported two deaths today from the highly contagious virus - one each in Maharashtra and Bihar - taking the tally to six, as per state authorities.

Mangalore, Feb 6: The first Rashtriya Lok Adalat of 2020 will get started from Feb 8, A district judge has announced, adding that it is being organised by Karnataka Law Services Authority and Dakshina Kannada Law Services Authority.

Speaking to media on Wednesday evening, Justice Sathyanarayana Acharya Kandlur said, "4,820 cases were resolved through Lok Adalat last year. 618 cases have been registered so far to be decided under the Lok Adalat."

Familial, civil and revenue cases of cheque dishonour, financial extortion, cases related to telephone, electricity, water, land encroachment and acquisition, motor vehicle cases, labour issues and maintenance expenses will be decided in the Lok Adalat.

Mangaluru, Apr 13: City Commissioner of police P S Harsha on Monday warned people, not to use drones illegally for filming or any other purposes.

Speaking with this regard Harsha said on Monday ,''“We have noticed that persons are illegally using drones to film Mangaluru city. If this continues, we will not only seize the drone but will also take firm legal action against the person responsible. Because Mangaluru is a sensitive place with lots of vital installations.''

He further requested the media houses also not to hire drone services for filming or any other purposes.
