The girl was part of a group of students from city based prestigious Christ College who had come to the Vidhana Soudha to witness the Assembly session.

Sources from the Vidhana Soudha said the burqa-clad girl was stopped over 'security reasons' while other students were allowed to enter the assembly hall immediately.

It is said that the Muslim girl was asked to remove her hijab before going inside. However, when she turned down the demand of marshals she was taken to a cabin by female staff.

She was then checked for 15 to 20 minutes before being allowed inside.

The incident is likely to trigger a controversy as several Muslim organisations and activists have expressed concern over the unfair treatment of a hijab-clad girl.
