Hijab-clad Muslim woman removed from US plane

April 17, 2016

Chicago, Apr 17: A hijab-clad Muslim woman in the US was reportedly removed from a Southwest Airlines plane after she asked for switching seats with a flight attendant saying she "did not feel comfortable" with the passenger.hijab

Hakima Abdulle, a Muslim woman from Maryland, said she was removed from the flight from Chicago to Seattle "without any credible explanation".

Abdulle said she wanted to switch seats but instead, she ended up being removed from the flight.

This was the second such incident involving the carrier this month after an Iraqi man claimed that he was removed from a Southwest Airlines plane after a fellow passenger heard him speaking in Arabic.

Zainab Chaudry, an official with the Council on American- Islamic Relations, said in a news conference that Abdulle had boarded the Seattle-bound aircraft on Wednesday when a flight attendant told her she would not be permitted to remain on board.

Airport police then escorted Abdulle, who is of Somalian descent and was wearing a hijab, to the ticket counter, where she waited several hours for a later flight, Chaudry was quoted as saying by The Baltimore Sun.

The flight attendant and Southwest employees inside the terminal were unable to provide "any reasonable explanation" for their action, Chaudry said, adding that Abdulle, who speaks little English, was reduced to tears and "suffered extreme distress and anxiety as a result of this experience."

When police asked the flight attendant at the gate if there was any reason why Abdulle had been taken off the plane, the flight attendant reportedly replied, "No" and that she did "not feel comfortable" with the passenger.

Brandy King, a spokeswoman for Southwest Airlines, was quoted as saying that the "information available, collected at the time of the event, indicates that our employees followed proper procedures in response to this customer's actions while on board the aircraft".

"We are not in the business of removing passengers from flights without reason," King said.

Abdulle's husband Abukar Fidaw said, "She was humiliated because of her religion and the way she dressed."

In a similar incident on April 6, UC Berkeley senior Khairuldeen Makhzoomi was supposed to fly from Los Angeles to Oakland. Instead, Makhzoomi was removed from Southwest Airlines flight after speaking Arabic before his flight took off, the Daily Californian reported.

Where was allah before 14th century. Allah means in Hebrew Oak Tree. Allah means in Sanskrit Goddess. AlLat, Uzzah and Mannat three daughters of Allah Muhammad worshiped. Khayru al-makireena ! Dear Prem Prasad,
Sometimes when we learn from cheddi hinduism its not what hindu scriptures says.. similarly there are half baked knowledge in all community... Even if you are reading english translated QURAN.. Its ok. God helps those who look for him HONESTLY> never keep hatred. instead read QURAN to understand, GOD and his attributes ... Allah is all powerful and all knowing... He even knows what is inside your heart even if you are sitting in the DARKEST place on EARTH.. there are some lessons in the QURAN, if we use our intellect rightly... then WE have a lot in this LIFE other than hatred and Jealousy... Come prem...Look for QURAN honestly.

Please know that ALLAH created everything and he sent many prophets when people deviated and worshiped created things...JeSus pbuh was also a messenger of God. Muhammad pbuh is the final and last messenger of God...
Please check the bible where Jesus says worship me, Hindu scriptures says NA TASYA PRATIMA ASTI... there is no image of GOD ... But cheddis will drag U to worship their man made Gods.. anyway QURAN says Use your intellect, Verify what quran speaks... Think and think again and accept what it says...
TRY IT PREM.

Do you still depend on Quran and Hadith which is a trash. III caliph uthman manipulated and edited it, destroying all originals. Muhammad was made to read 7 versions of the Quran and you have only one quran manipulated by the III caliph uthman. The editor of the Quran was wounded by muslims in the Mosque. He ran away to his house. He was killed in cold blood in his house. His quran was soaked in blood. 9/11 is nothing for Muslims. You killed editor of the Quran. What a sarcastic religion you are following. 110-220 and several other sects ahmadies, salafies and kulfies.

Talibans, al qaidah, al nusrah, lashkar toiba etc, etc., RSS is nothing before these Muslims beheader, killers and butchers.

I read English Quran. Muslims said you should read Arabic Quran because allah is limited to Arabic and Mecca. 5 times performing Salat turning the face to Mecca is in Arabic all over the world. Who needs this Limited allah never knowing humans other languages. Read Sanathana Dharma holy book and the holy Bible of Jesus Christ. you will shun your 110 shia and 220 sunni divide.

Prem prasad,

The media has spent a lot to keep guys like U to think the opposite way... I can suggest U to read QURAN .. U will understand every query which is having in your mind. When U feel hatred towards Muslims. Atleast check Yaar what is written in QURAN (Muslim book)...
Dont depend on cheddi media (JNU twisted issue is one)..and zionist media(9/11) ... which has taken people like you as a playboy for them by keeping the masses in FALSE msgs (There are many videos which exposes their evil works)
Understand LIFE and thank God that someone is introducing YOU to the DIVINE knowledge which will benefit in your LIFE & Life after death.... The more Hatred U keep in your heart, it is like YOU are carrying a MOUNTAIN in your back... So, honestly I suggest U to look QURAN which mentions about the LIFE & DEATH and how evil controls those who are FAR from the TRUTH.

Quran never say wear burqa, cover fully top to bottom. Hadith is man made.
She wants to switch seat. She is uncomfortable with the co-passenger.
Abdulle is from a Somalian dissent. Cover picture shows white from M.E. All deceptions.
USA is not taking excuses like France and Belgium. Good that the women is thrown out from the plane – safety first.

Divine teaching says it is better for YOU to wear your HIJAB...
People with lustful desires alwz oppose such divine teachings... forgetting that they will face their CREATOR one day. It is cos of the MERCY of ALLAH that U escape now... But he will take care of such trouble makers on its prescribed time.. Until then U enjoy your devilish acts... which will have an end and that end will be very severe .... Look how Pharoah was ruling over the people but in the end he has nothing...
QURAN speaks about the LIFE in this earth and how ALLAH bring back the LIFE after death to justify that has happened in this life.. The same way HE gave us life in the first place

Bengaluru, Mar 27: A 65-year-old coronavirus patient who died in Karnataka this morning after apparently contracting the infection on a train ride has raised concern about community transmission of the highly contagious disease.
The man, the 60th coronavirus patient in Karnataka, died in Tumakuru. It is not known for certain how he caught the virus. The Karnataka Health Department has posted a notice on Twitter asking whoever travelled with him on train to come forward.

He had no history of recent foreign travel but had apparently traveled to Delhi on March 5 by Sampark Kranti Express and returned on March 11.

On March 7, he arrived at Delhi's Nizamuddin station and participated in an event at Jamia Masjid.

The man took a train back on March 11 and arrived at Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru. From there, he took a bus on March 14 to his hometown Sira.

He first showed symptoms of COVID-19 on March 18 and was taken to a private hospital. He was sent home with medicines but his condition worsened.

On March 23, he was admitted to a district hospital, but checked himself out against all advice and went to a private hospital. When his health showed signs of deterioration, he was again sent to the district hospital, where he tested positive for coronavirus yesterday. He died around 10.30 am today.

The health department has since traced 24 people who came in direct contact with him and are so, in the high-risk category. Thirteen are in hospital and eight have tested negative.

"All passengers who had travelled with him on the train are being traced," K Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Tumakuru, was quoted as telling news agency ANI.

A 70-year old woman and a 76-year old man had died of coronavirus or COVID-19 earlier in Karnataka.

India has over 700 coronavirus cases, including 17 deaths.

Bengaluru, Jan 6: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Monday said he would not get involved in any 'wicked act' of bringing down the B S Yediyurappa-led government in Karnataka, amid claims that 15 to 20 BJP MLAs were ready to come out.

Clarifying that he would not disturb the government, the former Chief Minister said for him, the development of the state was important. "With great difficulty, you (Yediyurappa) have become Chief Minister for the fourth time, (I am) happy, I have nowhere said that I will disturb your government. Even now some people come and ask why I'm sitting silent when 15-20 people are ready to come out of BJP and why don't I make an attempt (to poach them), Kumaraswamy said. Speaking to reporters in Hassan, he sought to know why he should get entangled in that 'sludge' and he was not in a hurry.

"I will not get involved in a wicked act of removing a responsible government like Yediyurappa did. For me the development of the state is important," he said.

Though Kumaraswamy had raised questions about the longevity of the BJP government ahead of the December 5 bypolls, he had even then given clear indications that he would not attempt to pull down the administration as it would affect the development of the state.

The ruling BJP had swept the by-elections by winning 12 of the total 15 seats, helping the Yediyurappa government retain the majority in the Assembly.

With BJP winning 12 of the 15 assembly constituencies, it's numbers went up from 105 (including an independent) to 117, which is well ahead of the halfway mark of 111 in a 223-member Assembly (two seats-- Maski and R R Nagar-- are vacant due to pending litigation in the High Court).

The BJP came to power after the Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JD(S) coalition government collapsed as 17 MLAs had rebelled against the alliance leadership and resigned as legislators, to later favour the saffron party.

Riyadh, Jun 17: Saudi Arabia is expected to scale back or call off this year's hajj pilgrimage for the first time in its modern history, observers say, a perilous decision as coronavirus cases spike.

Muslim nations are pressing Riyadh to give its much-delayed decision on whether the annual ritual will go ahead as scheduled in late July.

But as the kingdom negotiates a call fraught with political and economic risks in a tinderbox region, time is running out to organise logistics for one of the world's largest mass gatherings.

A full-scale hajj, which last year drew about 2.5 million pilgrims, appears increasingly unlikely after authorities advised Muslims in late March to defer preparations due to the fast-spreading disease.

"It's a toss-up between holding a nominal hajj and scrapping it entirely," a South Asian official in contact with Saudi hajj authorities said.

A Saudi official said: "The decision will soon be made and announced."

Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, withdrew from the pilgrimage this month after pressing Riyadh for clarity, with a minister calling it a "very bitter and difficult decision".

Malaysia, Senegal and Singapore followed suit with similar announcements.

Many other countries with Muslim populations -- from Egypt and Morocco to Turkey, Lebanon and Bulgaria -- have said they are still awaiting Riyadh's decision.

In countries like France, faith leaders have urged Muslims to "postpone" their pilgrimage plans until next year due to the prevailing risks.

The hajj, a must for able-bodied Muslims at least once in their lifetime, represents a major potential source of contagion as it packs millions of pilgrims into congested religious sites.

But any decision to limit or cancel the event risks annoying Muslim hardliners for whom religion trumps health concerns.

It could also trigger renewed scrutiny of the Saudi custodianship of Islam's holiest sites -- the kingdom's most powerful source of political legitimacy.

A series of deadly disasters over the years, including a 2015 stampede that killed up to 2,300 worshippers, has prompted criticism of the kingdom's management of the hajj.

"Saudi Arabia is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea," Umar Karim, a visiting fellow at the Royal United Services Institute in London, told AFP.

"The delay in announcing its decision shows it understands the political consequences of cancelling the hajj or reducing its scale."

"Buying time"

The kingdom is "buying time" as it treads cautiously, the South Asian official said.

"At the last minute if Saudi says 'we are ready to do a full hajj', (logistically) many countries will not be in a position" to participate, he said.

Amid an ongoing suspension of international flights, a reduced hajj with only local residents is a likely scenario, the official added.

A decision to cancel the hajj would be a first since the kingdom was founded in 1932.

Saudi Arabia managed to hold the pilgrimage during previous outbreaks of Ebola and MERS.

But it is struggling to contain the virus amid a serious spike in daily cases and deaths since authorities began easing a nationwide lockdown in late May.

In Saudi hospitals, sources say intensive care beds are fast filling up and a growing number of health workers are contracting the virus as the total number of cases has topped 130,000. Deaths surpassed 1,000 on Monday.

To counter the spike, authorities this month tightened lockdown restrictions in the city of Jeddah, gateway to the pilgrimage city of Mecca.

"Heartbroken"

"The hajj is the most important spiritual journey in the life of any Muslim, but if Saudi Arabia proceeds in this scenario it will not only exert pressure on its own health system," said Yasmine Farouk from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

"It could also be widely held responsible for fanning the pandemic."

A cancelled or watered-down hajj would represent a major loss of revenue for the kingdom, which is already reeling from the twin shocks of the virus-induced slowdown and a plunge in oil prices.

The smaller year-round umrah pilgrimage was already suspended in March.

Together, they add $12 billion to the Saudi economy every year, according to government figures.

A negative decision would likely disappoint millions of Muslim pilgrims around the world who often invest their life savings and endure long waiting lists to make the trip.

"I can't help but be heartbroken -- I've been waiting for years," Indonesian civil servant Ria Taurisnawati, 37, told AFP as she sobbed.

"All my preparations were done, the clothes were ready and I got the necessary vaccination. But God has another plan."
