Hindtuva activist booked for remarks against Pejawar seer on Facebook

Udupi, Jun 29: A Hindutva activist has been booked for posting ‘unpleasant and objectionable’ remarks on facebook against Pejawar mutt chief Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji for hosting "harmony iftar meet" for Muslims in the ancient Krishna temple complex at Udupi.VivekKademani

The Hindutva activist, identified as Vivek Kademani from Bengaluru, was booked based on a complaint by three Muslim men--Arif, Ansar and Ahmed, who were Swamiji’s fans and members of Pejawar blood donation team, police sources said.

Kademani had on his facebook post supporting hardline Hindutva fringe outfit Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Muthalik, expressed his opposition to the holding of Iftar get-together and Namaz at Sri Krishna mutt last week. He also used objectionable remarks against the Pejawar Swamiji in the post.

The octogenarian Swamiji had drawn the ire of Muthalik who has announced state-wide protests against the seer by his outfit on July.

The senior pontiff of Pejawar mutt had however defended holding the feast during Ramadan, saying that allowing Muslims to offer prayers in the temple complex, had in no way brought any insult to Hindu religion.

Bengaluru, June 21: Three youngsters lost their lives when an alleged wheeling stunt turned near Jakkur flyover in the city today morning. 

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Hadi, Ahmed Khan and Syed Riaz, all residents of Nagavara Govindapura.

The tragedy took place at around 6:30 a.m. While two among them died on the spot, the third one breathed his last at a hospital, soruces said.

Yelahanka traffic police have registered a case in this regard.

Mangaluru, July 30: The Social Democratic Party of India has condemned the move by the state government to drop a lesson on legendary Mysuru rulers Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan from the class 7 textbook.

The Department of Public Instruction has omitted the chapter from the textbooks of Class 7 in their attempt to reduce syllabus for state board schools by 30 per cent.

The department, however, has decided to retain similar chapters on Tipu Sultan in 6th and 10th Classes, though the syllabus in text books for all classes from 1 to 10th has been trimmed. 

In a media release statement, SDPI State President Ilyas Mohammed Thumbe termed the move as communally motivated. “By dropping the lesson, the BJP-led government is engaged in saffronisation of education,” he alleged.

He said that Tipu was the most prominent freedom fighter, who had given priority to irrigation, rocket technology and harmony. The BJP government is also planning to scrap lessons on the Constitution, secularism and democracy. By twisting history, the BJP is trying to mislead the younger generation, he added.

Bengaluru, Jul 18: Vendors in Bengaluru are finding it hard to earn a livelihood as the state government has allowed the sale of products only for a few hours each day. The lockdown imposed by the Karnataka government on July 14 will continue till July 22.

Speaking to ANI, Vanajakshi, a local vendor said, "We took loans from banks and small financiers to run our business. But we are finding it tough to pay back as our livelihoods have been hit."
"Because of the lockdown, no one comes to buy and markets remain vacant. There was a time when the Gandhi Nagar market was filled with customers, but now it looks like a vacant playground," she added.

Mythri, an advocate, said, "Look at the conditions of vendors. It's precarious. They do not have any business at all. Even now they have been allowed to sell products till 12 noon, which is not sufficient. It's time for the government to step in and provide assistance. If the Central government can reduce corporate taxes, why can't it help them? At least it will help them pass off these difficult times. "

"They are earning through daily wages. The government imposed lockdown suddenly. Where will they go? The city market in Bengaluru is famous. At least 8,000 people come from slum areas. People here are poor. The lockdown was done suddenly and led to problems for these people," said Congress MLA Zamil Ahmed Khan.

Referring to a recent meeting with the chief minister BS Yediyurappa, he said, "During the meeting called by the CM, I suggested that food kits must be arranged for vendors. The CM said the government is providing rice and wheat but that's not enough."
