Mangaluru, Apr 6: In a major embarrassment for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, several Hindu community leaders have come down heavily on its veteran leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for his offensive remarks against U T Khader, Karnataka Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.

Speaking at a hunger protest organized by the members of Amrutadhara Gaushala at Kairangala in Bantwal taluk under the pretext of exerting pressure on police to arrest cattle thieves on Thursday, Mr Bhat warned temple management committees in Ullal region against allowing Mr Khader inside the temple. He went on to suggest that temples should hold Brahma Kalashotsava ceremony once again because of the visit of Mr Khader.

Enraged by Mr Bhat’s remarks, a group of local leaders from Hindu community including representatives of the management committees of various temples in Ullal region on Thursday held a press meet to show solidarity with Mr Khader, who also represents Ullal (Mangaluru) constituency in Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Those who were present at the press meet include Suresh Bhatnagara, vice president of Bhagavati Kshetra, Vishwanat Gatty Vagga, president of the management committee of Someshwara Temple, Rohit Ullal from Koragajja Seva Samiti, Shridhar Kaniruthota, president of Malayali Chamundi Temple of Kaniruthota, Shrinivas Shetty of Asaigoli Ayyappa Temple, and local activists Santosh Kumar Shetty, Purushottama Anchan, Deepak Pilar, Harish Madyar, Sampath Madyar, Kishor Gatty Mandoli, Dheeraj Shetty, Ranjit Shetty and Ravi Shetty Pilar.

They said that Mr Khader, being a state minister and representative of all the people irrespective of caste, community and religion, has all the rights to visit temples. They also said that Mr Khader has contributed to the growth of many temples in his constituency. “We are grateful to Mr Khader for contributions. BJP leader Nalin Kumar Kateel, despite being the MP of Dkshina Kannada, has done nothing for the development of temples,” they said.

Santosh Kumar Shetty, who is also Ullal Block Congress chief, said that Mr Bhat should learn the teachings of Hinduism before criticizing a leader like Mr Khader, who is known for communal harmony and amity.

“Those who steal cattle should be arrested and punished. Mr Khader had pressurized Mangaluru city police to speed up man hunt and arrest the thieves who stole cows from gaushala. However, those who are staging hunger strike are in fact playing political games to support a particular party,” he said. He went on to claim that Mr Bhat himself may send thieves to steal cows as part of his political strategy ahead of Karnataka assembly polls.

Mr Shetty also recalled that in the past Mr Bhat, Mr Kateel and other leaders of Sangh Parivar had held Mr Khader responsible for the murder of Kartik Raj, a Hindu youth. Gradually, it had come to light that Kartik Raj’s killers not only had links with saffron outfits but also had taken part in the protest against the same murder.

Bengaluru, Jan 17: Karnataka Health Minister and BJP leader B Sriramulu on Friday claimed that Congress supports Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Popular Front of India (PFI) to disturb peace in the state.

His statement came after the arrest of 6 SDPI supporters in connection with an attack on a BJP-RSS follower during a pro-CAA rally held in December last year.

"The Congress party 100 per cent supports SDPI and PFI. Whenever they do not get the power, they try to disturb the peace with the support of SDPI and PFI. I will propose in Karnataka Assembly session to ban these organisations in Karnataka. We will discuss this matter," Sriramulu told ANI.

"We had already demanded for the ban on these organisations in Karnataka when I was an MP. Shobha Karandlaje, Yediyurappa and I had met Rajnath Singh, the then Home Minister in Delhi and we had given a memorandum to ban SDPI and PFI," he added.

A case has been registered against arrested SDPI supporters under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Bengaluru Police is constituting a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle this case.

"There were 6 people belonging to SDPI, who were here to carry out attacks on leaders supporting CAA. These people were being paid Rs 10,000 from their handlers to create ruckus here. Now this will be handled by the Anti-Terror unit," said Bhaskar Rao, Bengaluru Commissioner of Police.

Earlier today, Karnataka Minister Jagadish Shettar called for a ban on SDPI.

"SDPI always denies their involvement but it has been proved now. I welcome the police's action. Their organisation should be banned as they have always been involved in anti-social activities and government of India should take very serious note of this," Shettar told ANI here.

Bengaluru, May 12: Last week, a 28-year-old, eight-months pregnant woman, was found murdered at her house, in Diburahalli. The woman was hacked to death with a machete during the day and was discovered only after her family members returned home, later in the day. After the alleged murder, the accused tried to destroy the evidence, by cleaning the crime scene, and wiping the bloodstains off the walls and floors.

The victim was a homemaker and her husband is employed in the railway department. The police suspected that the murder was a result of someone known to the woman and family, and were soon proved right. The woman was murdered by her own brother-in-law, frustrated with her for allegedly not taking care of his mother and other family members properly.

The victim has been identified as Jyothi, and the accused is her husband’s brother Hareesh Babu, 38. “Jyothi and the accused are alleged to have had differences for the past few years. Their fights kept escalating over the years. She had also informed her family and her husband about the regular fights with the brother-in-law. The accused had been advised by the family, to back off from Jyothi. Owing to his violent streak, Babu’s wife had deserted him and their son. Since his wife’s departure, he had started troubling his brother’s wife and was regularly picked a fight with her.

He complained that Jyothi neglected to take care of his mother and other family members. Investigations reveal these as false allegations, and in fact, Babu’s son was being raised by Jyothi,” said an officer on part of investigations.

Last week, when the victim was resting at home, the accused returned home at around 10.30 am and picked up a fight with her. The fight escalated and Babu ended up hacking her to death with a machete. The victim’s father Nagaraj, at the time of filing a complaint, mentioned Babu’s regular fights with Jyothi and suspected his role in the murder of his pregnant daughter.

The accused, after killing her, had gone to the farm and pretended to not knowing about the the happenings back home. Based on the complainant’s suspicion, the police picked up Babu. After a thorough interrogation, Babu reportedly confessed to the murder of his sister-in-law. The machete, which was used for Jyothi’s murder, was also recovered by the police team.

A case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigations are underway.
